I'm now right off the edge of it at the last star I could find with a station, docked up for the night for the final time before I head into the big black.

I presume from here it is just a case of pick a direction and go, or is there more of a science to finding the good stuff and naming a few stars?

What I did was type in Sagit let the navigator go to Sag A then clicked on it.. clicked on my ship again then moved the navigator to a star towards Sag A but less than 1000 LY from my ship (as can't plan a route that long)

If you don't have a destination that you know you want to go to like Sag A , the neutron star fields, or Barnards loop, you can do a Google search for elite dangerous exploration destinations. Or you can just head in the direction of your choosing. Have fun out there!

If you want to get plenty of first discovery bonus's then it's best to get away from the most well-travelled routes, such as the popular named nebulas like the Pleiedes. I just pick a random direction, not forgetting that you can go up or down from the galactic plane. There's lot's of undiscovered stiff out there!

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

oh and a useful pnemonic for the stars you can scoop is KGB FOAM , saved my bacon a few times has that, good luck in your hauler, and you will be surprised at how much money you will earn on your return, just be careful when you re-enter the bubble , and also did you keep your docking computer? if your away for a long time its surprising how rusty you get with docking, it wold be embarressing to prang into the starport after all that work ! , fly safe commander
