Considering building a Federal Assault Ship....

I recently got to Combat Elite status with the following build..

It's as maneuverable as the vulture and packs more of a punch. I farmed HiRes, HazRes and CZ's with no problems.

Loved flying it.

I have the same as Flip but with Military Grade hull. Good for ramming things and good in pairs

Definitely good in pairs! So far we haven’t found anything able to give us any real trouble. Even large wings are no match to a pair of FAS!

And the ramming always makes me LOL.

Well.... this kinda sucks. I wanted to outfit my new FAS with 2 large gimballed beams and 2 medium gimballed multi-cannons. I found that one multi-cannon won't fire no matter what I do.

After messing with it for a while, I checked my friend Google, and found this. Apparently it's a known bug on the FAS.

I guess I'll be changing my outfitting now.

Ok.... so I've had a chance to spend some quality time with my new FAS.

Here is the build that I've settled on.... at least for now. I may swap the interdictor and fuel scoop if I continue to use it for fairly long range combat. (I do a fair amount of PP) I initially had a 2A fuel scoop on it and I had a hell of a time refueling without frying modules. The 3A is a a big improvement but a 4A would be nice.

When the 5A SCB is depleted, there is enough power available to run both 2A SBC's at the same time if desired. Yes please!

I'm getting used to the hardpoint placement. I'm having to keep my targets a fair amount lower in my sights than I'm used to. Otherwise the medium hard points can't see the target.

It's certainly MUCH more maneuverable than the agility rating would lead you to believe. There is no way that the FAS and Python should have the same rating! I have both ships A rated through and through, and the FAS can run circles around the Python. But the Python is big and scary looking.

I've used her in a Haz-RES , CZ, and Crime Sweep so far. Overall I'm very happy with the FAS. Thank you all for your input in this thread!

Don't forget about ramming things

All the federal ship variants are more massive than my Anaconda...which means ramming is a viable means of dealing out satisfying amounts of damage

Don't let the manuverability rating lie to you, it may not turn like the vulture, but it's no challenge to point it in the direction you want.

This is the FAS that I own all massed up for maximum ramming potential. My choice of a B powerplant isn't as much about cost as it is about module armor and mass.

You'll have to decide what you want for yourself, but even with an A powerplant, I would recommend getting as large a fuel scoop as you can bear as the FAS doesn't cool well enough to just park it in a stars corona sphere and slowly scoop fuel and you're going to find yourself skimming in fast passes.
