I kind of agree with you, cannot remember why I decided not to side with her, I think it gave me a bit a feeling of cheap populism... don't know.
You see, there are different kind of socialists, Mussolini was one of them (yup, he was originally in the Italian Socialist party).
I had the feeling (hopefully wrong) that Winters was THAT kind of populist, my antibodies would react badly there :)

Joined Winters as well. I agree with her policies. (As a Canadian on the west coast)

She'll be a hard power to maintain in the long term, I can see more aggressive power approaching our borders!

I have so far given a cursory glance at the various powers and so far I sum it up as "no, no way, BOOORING, nope".

I honestly can't find any reason to side with anyone at this point.

I wanted to side with Aisling, even though I don't like her notion of making imperial slaves illegal or setting them free, but she's not very combat oriented, at least doesn't provide any bonuses and she is pretty far from my home system of Vakas. I've currently sided with Arissa something, the other Duval, because she gives an extra 20% increase to bounties and combat bonds, which makes the two RES sites, one normal the other high intensity, very lucrative.

i was reading this https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1A7K-q-n5GUjTdJE8WEm5ULsZ064bwHRPktN1eAub3Q0/present#slide=id.g5254ffa18_0_49 (I think I came to find it via a reddit) and I noticed that it was suggetsted that the Alliance were the only ones with a possible chance of peace with the Thargoids (witch(sic) I remember from the original) and wondered if that might be something to consider? A moot point if the Thargoids are going to be solely a part of the over-priced seasonal release
