And this thread is a huge reason to play in Mobius. Try flying without weapons in an explorer ship in the Open game. A couple of folks made the trip all the way to Sag A only to be blown up by a moron lurking there waiting for people. They lost weeks of data all because some ass-hat decided it would be fun to take out unarmed explorers.

I think I will explore with the T-6, having said that is it worth it to get the Entire system scanner, Advanced , or the 1,000 ly scanner, Intermediate? Also, does the Advanced scanner really get everything in the system?

I've been to Orions' Nebula and the Witch Head Nebula in an asp.

You MUST have an advanced scanner (and basic discovery). Yes, it finds everything in the system, and the extra money from scanning each body it finds is worth it, IMO.

@SoulMirror

I am out in the deep black in a T6 just now and, kitted out for exploration, I think it is an excellent and much under-rated ship for the purpose. I have mine fully decked out with all the internal bays full (including two field maintenance units) and can still jump 24 Lyrs with a full tank. Not that I have needed to jump anywhere near that far, you understand. Nearly all my jumps have been in the 3 to 5 bracket with some long stretches out to about 12Lyrs. The ship itself is holding up well and if I hadn't been careless a couple of times everything would still be at 100%. As it is I have taken some heat damage but nothing that has caused me to repair, let alone worry, as yet. Additionally the cockpit of the T6 does offer excellent views.

The Asp is a better ship for the purpose but it does cost an awful lot more and I am not sure what you get is worth the extra spend.

Did anyone fly the diamondback explorer in Beta, and is willing to compare it to a T-6? I am starting to outfit my T-6 for exploration and then 1.3 went live, thanks in advance.

Well, when I set out nearly 7 weeks ago I thought I'd be home in about a month. Well, it hasn't happened.... currently over 15k lys from Sol, I've been up above the galaxy where the stars thin out and neutron stars are common. I've dived down through the plane where the sky is really crowded, seen all sorts of planets and systems. Not seen anyone or any previously discovered systems in ages and I'm not done yet. I might just have to go look at Sag *A, I'm over halfway there anyway. Going to have lots of data to trade in, starting to get a little worried about getting back in one piece with it. I trust you guys, but I might just have to complete the trip in solo, just to be sure...

I am feeling the need to head out again. I'm going to get my T9 and then I may park and it do something different.

I must admit, I do my exploring in a Diamondback Explorer. Love it. No love for the Explorer :)

I headed out into the black recently, then heard about the 10K run which I'd love to take part in. :( what to do...

I've just re-read my first post on this thread..."out for a couple of weeks or so"
Well, its gotten to rather more than that!
I'm on the 79th day of the voyage, been to Sag A* and lots of other places along the way.
I'm now making a determined effort to get home. Still collecting stuff along the way but I'm trying to stick to doing max distance jumps in the direction of my current base in Cartu.
Still got 16k lys to go but I am making progress back towards civilization. If I can fit in enough time playing I could be back within a week, but I doubt that I'll manage that....
Should be a nice pay day when I eventually get there!

Flying my diamond back explorer about 1700 LY from Sol, looking for Neutron stars. All already scanned so far :(

Planning on doing a trip to Sag A* upon my return.

Big thanks to CMDR Belstarion for joining me for a big chunk of my short trip and to everyone I've had the opportunity to chat with.
