Seems to me that it was a bit of bad luck for you. I've accidentally gone into open tonight and done about 60ly from Leesti to Codorain and back. All stations were teeming with players. Nobody attacked (but I was in a vulture).

There's some idiot being slated on the FD forum for posting video of him repeatedly attacking harmless/mostly harmless sidewinders in his Clipper.

There's a thread in which Raze posted their experience and so far the posts have gone from, "it's not griefing", "not Hello Kitty Online", to "should play in Solo" and "was probably NPCs".
The "Griefers in Arexe" thread is also a fun read, "It's pretty much impossible to be griefed in ED unless you're asking for it." Good old victim blaming.
Any time I think I might venture into open, I don't know, maybe for a competition or something, all I have to do is have a quick peek at the ED forums. Cures me every time :)

Arioch wrote:With regards the PvP crowd - I remember shortly after the Kickstarter finished, someone on the forums made a prediction that the Guilds from Eve would eventually turn up and try to get the game changed to how they wanted it, ie. Open only fish in a barrel. They would employ 'squeaky wheel' tactics on the forums, present 'problems' and give solutions, have others pose as Solo only players who would be converted through the convincing arguments, all that sort of stuff. I thought, "paranoid bugger, it'll never happen".

For the past few months, looking at the forums, I'm wondering... is paranoia catching?

Wish I could find the original posts but my search-function-fu has failed me!

Well i think thats what is happenning because a lot of those screaming for changes have an eve online picture in the avatars, and the way they play is just like in eve online.

In my opinion is a good thing the game is dlc based, because i dont have to pay a subscription so the developers start to give preference to a certain group, which is going to happen in this game.

Also i saw some declarations from sandro (i guess he is the lead designer) who is more incline to the pvp stuff saying "they dont want groups to be de easy mode" and saying people who dont play in open are cutting themselfs from the rest of the galaxy, which i think is a great mistake for a lead designer take such stands.

From my point of view i think the less money we spend in these game the better until we see which road is going to take.

I think you're talking about the comments by Sandro in the Solo vs Open vs Group thread which were specifically about Community Goals, I didn't get a feel of any sort of bias from his comments, they read to me as almost a gentle fobbing off, "Yeah, we hear your problem, we'll get around to looking at it. Eventually..."
I'd love to know the mode population figures though, I'd be willing to bet money that if an official PvE mode was plonked on the main menu it would rapidly become the most popular. I see a lot of arguments against it from the EVE-esque chaps, saying it would be a griefers paradise and wouldn't be feasible etc (totally ignoring the fact that Mobius seems to be doing alright) so I guess they think the same too and don't want to lose their targets content rich playing experience :)
I wonder if... DBraben's idea that the griefers would slowly be put into instances with other griefers would eventually come true, not as he imagined, but as everyone migrated to the PvE mode and the numpties got kicked back to Open?
It'd be a shame to lose player pirating and everything that evolves around that - I'd love to be pirated in the game. My experiences in Open though, well, not quite what I imagined. (Analogy Alert!) I like board games, being beaten by a skilled, cunning, clever opponent is a fun experience. If that opponent instead just swept all the game pieces onto the floor and curled down a big Mr Whippy on the board whilst shouting, "Nyah! Nyah! Nyah! I WIN!", well, it's not quite the same, is it?
I'll be interested to see what happens when Eve Valkyrie comes out...

Hi there yeah to that thread and another one where he was actually adressing the private group specifically ill search for it and post a link. i agree that having people playing pirates can be fun the problem is the game dont permit perma kill players  could be very interesting to see something like that but also would affect everyone elses, from my point of view this guys only want to force people into open to have more victims to kill, seriously there is no other reason to start whining agaisnt other modes, and again having a lead designer having such pvp tendency makes me think the game may be taken a eve like gameplay, or worst a age of connan atmosphere with players hunting indiscriminately other players just because they can.

I think the aim of the game is co-op some pvp of course but not in a way that ruins everyone elses game.

Just like what was pitched at the Kickstarter :) I truly hope that FDev stick to their ideals of "we're making the game we want to play" and I'm sure that they can see that the small vocal minorities are just that.
I think that once the crime stuff gets implemented and consequence free murder is no longer a thing, we'll see some proper moaning in the ED forums!

i didn't read the whole thread, it was rather long, but i didn't see any reference to how (or if) those changes would affect assassination missions and the like - a 150k payment once sounded huge but now it might be chicken feed for all the extra trouble committing a crime would bring

pre-v1.1 you could goad your target into firing on you, and respond in self defence to complete the mission, the money was good

post-v1.1 you incur a murder charge and 6000cr bounty even if he fires first, which made those missions much less attractive

post-v1.2 perhaps not worth the bother?

Aye, there's a lot of work to be done on crime and everything related to it. It's almost as if the game was still in Beta and all these things are still in the process of being figured out :)
