Commander Pr0cyon requesting permission to dock.

Postby TheBBP » Thu Feb 12, 2015 3:21 am

I finally got the game, but have not put a ton of time into it yet. I have deleted my save to start over about 3 times now and am looking toward a 4th. It is a boon and a bane at the same time that it does not hold your hand. Just having a tough time getting rolling, but am enjoying it.

All I want to really do is ship goods and be a space trucker. I accepted a job but it wants me to buy cargo that costs more than I start with. Any tips on where I should go to learn how to get a good start?

I'm not really a Trader, but a great way to start (regardless of profession) is to acquire a decent cargo rack (4-6 Tons) and accept some basic courier missions (haul item from A to B). Some of the smuggling missions (collecting items such as: Blackboxes, Rebel Transmissions, etc.) were another easy way to make a quick profit early on. It's a bit of a grind, but I found this to be an easy way to earn credits and eventually upgrade to a better ship/modules so I could jump right into my chosen profession (Bounty Hunting in my case).

Thanks for that tip. I am slowly getting the hang of it and am enjoying small successes. I cannot wait until i can get a real cargo ship.

Welcome aboard, Commander! Don't worry, the first few days are a bit confusing, but soon you'll get the hang of it. Also you'll find lots of info and good tips on this forum, but feel free to ask for more. Lots of helpful people, here. Fly safe!

I started a few days ago myself and maybe I was just lucky, but I had a big break when I made 17K credits in one simple mission.
That's 17x more money than when I accepted the mission, and all I had to do was to bring 4t of Tea to a station!

So, keep looking for good opportunities on the bulletin Boards, but don't attempt to bite off more than you can chew :)

Greetings commander. The way I did it (perhaps not the most efficient) was kept my eyes open for any easy but higher paying fetch or courier missions on the bulletin boards. Everyone once in awhile you'll score a good paying one for something easy like Kowalsky mentioned above. But while those are refreshing, I'd be specced to fight and go to a Resource Collection site in my Freagle and take out a few small bounty ships until I had a decent amount earned (for just starting out anyway) then come back to upgrade and look for those higher paying missions. It really doesn't take long if you just focus on small but lucrative trades, missions, or some BH'ing.

Why are you clearing your save so many times. Even if you have a death or fine setback it can still be worth it to continue on after just paying it - can't be as bad as going back to the minimum? Unless you are getting caught with a huge prohibited cargo fine or something?

Welcome aboard. You'll get lots of good information in this forum, and once you get a white transit van (hauler), you'll start making a bit and then move up to an adder when the wheezing of the engines starts to get you down. It won't be long til you have a Cobra or a T6. (Vipers are for fightin' not for tradin').

Anyways, see you in space, fly safe and good luck out there.
