Hello CMDR's, Terrible Pilot Here!

Postby AfxTwn » Sat Apr 28, 2018 7:49 pm

Hi everyone, I'm just getting back into Elite after about a year or so when I raged-quit due to the endless grind, inability to focus on any one goal and my overall terrible piloting.

I've started again with a new profile after deleting my old one and have done around 4 hours or so today in my plucky little sidewinder. This time I think I have come in with a more open mind and not really caring about the grind as I know I need to look beyond that and just accept that I am not going to get anywhere fast and this game requires a lot of time and to just take things in my stride more.

With that said I do have one overarching goal inspired by a thread over on the official ED forum where a CMDR there managed to achieve triple elite status with just a sidewinder and that's something I'd love to do as well. This will help me focus more I think as I won't be endlessly flitting from one ship to another in search of that mythical "better ship" and feeling the incessant grind by never having enough money to buy the ship I want and feeling it is too hard for me to reach.

Instead I will just upgrade my Sidewinder as needed and accept the limitations of it. I am not setting a time limit on my end goal of triple elite status and it will happen when it happens but instead I will just play the game when I like, knowing that some day I will achieve my goal but without any added pressures.

I am going to do missions only and focus on one thing at a time (unless I get bored, in which case I can switch). So far I have just been doing data delivery missions in an attempt to avoid combat (my least favourite and weakest aspect of my game). Can anyone tell me if they count towards any of the ranks such as trade or explorer? Which mission types count towards which ranks?

Presumably passenger missions would count towards the explorer rank and any combat missions obviously count to combat?

Anyway, sorry for this long post and introduction. Hopefully this is the start of a more pleasant gaming experience for me this time.

Greetings and welcome CMDR AfxTwn
An exciting goal you set yourself there, but without pressures of 'having to' this will no doubt be an exciting voyage.

Hope to meet you in the black void some day !

Thanks for the warm welcome. I have to say, I am enjoying the game so much more without putting myself under any pressure to achieve things or feel I have to go chasing something.

I'm still only doing data/boom delivery missions and donating credits as my only way of going through the ranks and this enables me to approach the game in a much more relaxed fashion. It feels more like Euro Truck Simulator and I can just enjoy the journey and play the game in shorter bursts knowing that I am adding to my overall goal but without worrying that it's going to take me a very long time.

I finally understand that this game isn't so much about the end point and is just about enjoying doing what you're doing in the moment.
