(This is my first ever home build)

Rig:

Mobo: Asus Z87-K
CPU: Intel 4th Gen i5 4460 @ 3.2 (3.4 Boost) Ghz
GPU: Asus Strix GTX 970
Audio Card: (PCI): Asus Xonar DG 5.1
PSU: Corsair CXM 600 Watt Modular 80 Plus Bronze
Network Card: Intel Pro 1000
Chassis: Corsair 100R (Windowed) Mid Tower ATX

Peripherals:

USB Audio Device: Akai EIE PRO (for recording me and my mates making Punky noizes)
Delan Clip (cheap alternative 3 point LED head mount to Track IR, that can be used with FaceTrackNoIR on the Point Settings) Info: http://www.delanengineering.com/

Future Purchase (when I have the dosh, hopefully before X-Mas): Razor HDK for VR http://www.razerzone.com/gb-en/store/osvr-hdk

Took a couple of years to get this Rig together. It's on its second case as the power button on the cheap ebay case shorted out (some may remember this thread viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3165 ). I started with a GT740 and used that for a year whilst saving up for the 970.

Here's mine:

(It's a custom built labtop)

Octane Series 17.3" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen (1920x1080)
Intel Core i7 Quad Core i7-6700k (4.00GHz) 8MB Cache
64GB HyperX IMPACT 2133MHz Sodium DDR4 (4x 16GB) RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980 Desktop - 8.0GB DDR5 Video RAM
960 HyperX SAVAGE 2.5" SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 560MB/sR | 530MB/sW)
750GB WD BLACK 2.5" WD7500BPKX, SATA 6b/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm)
Genuine Windows 10 Home-64 bit Pro

With graphics settings on as high as they can go I get 75 FPS during play.

Similar to my laptop, but I had 2x m.2 SSD in Raid 1 (mirror) and a second WD Black HD, and W10 Pro.

And the HTC Vive.

I run everything on Ultra if possible.

You should get more than 75fps. You probably have G-Sync turned on - it matches the framerate to the screen refresh rate.

Should I turn G-Sync off? Is it a EDH setting?

If running VR, it is a must.
If just wanting to see how much extra you get, then yes, but if not running VR then makes little difference to leave it on.

It is on by default in the NVidia control panel for any monitor (but only works with G-Sync monitors)

Try the Steam VR readyness app with and without G-Sync and see what I mean

I'm not running VR

I turned off G-Sync in the GPU software settings to "fixed refresh rate". It's made no difference. I've noticed that it always holds at 75 fps, rarely going below it but seemingly fixed at 75.

In my EDH settings my screen refresh rate is 75 Hz, which I can't change. My Frame Rate Limit is off but I can choose either off, 30, 45, 60, 120, 144 or 300 Hz.
