One 970 was the same as Tors 2 x 970's in SLI......

But as he explained later the test does not support SLI so that would explain it....

Roger is the one with the 970 SLI setup, I have a single 980 TI.

People call me Bob.

Rule 1: Pillage. Then burn.
Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I thought I'd just update this with my latest SteamVR Performance Test:

Image

The average fidelity is about on par with the GTX 980 Ti, but the frames tested was quite a bit higher.

I also performed the 3D Mark Fire Strike benchmark test and was a little underwhelmed. My dual GTX 970 SLI setup scored over 15k, but the GTX 1080 only scored about 16.3k, which is only about 5-10% faster. This is still a few percent slower than Wolf's 980 Ti setup, but he has a newer/faster i7 6700k CPU, which I assume explains that. I updated to the latest drivers and it was slightly slower. :P

Still, it is only a single card and nothing is overclocked or anything. I suppose I could squeeze some more performance out of the system, but I hope I won't need to for ED in VR. :)
It's time to give this another go.

Sweet. I'm getting a score of 11, 12200 frames tested, and 0 and 0 also. GTX980ti and i7 6700k.

I did a quick mess of attempted OC, but it created throttling and shut down! :P

The only thing that did me any good (and didn't cripple my system) was a tighter fan profile using MSI Afterburner. You should try it.

The 1080 is only running in the 60's. If I do attempt some OC, I may need to boost the fans.

During the Steam VR test? You can run MSI Afterburner during, and watch the temps. One sweet piece of kit though. :)

I was aiming for a Fractal Design Define S/GTX1080 build myself, but ran into an offer I couldn't refuse.

Some bloke sold me an Acer Predator G6-710 with beefed hardware and 5 year extended warranty at half price... He needed the cash and I couldn't say no.

Growing oddly fond of the quirky design as well. :) And I should be able to sell it again with a small profit in the near future if it strikes me. ;)

I wasn't really paying attention. I reran the test a few times and these are the results:

Idle = 34 C, 139 MHz, 0 RPM
Gaming mode (100%) = 68 C, 1734 MHz, 1750 RPM, 15214 frames
OC Mode (102%) = 72 C, 1772 MHz, 1925 RPM, 15669 frames
Silent Mode (97%) = 65 C, 1696 MHz, 1600 RPM, 14860 frames

The fans kick on at about 59 C and ramp up. I couldn't hear them over the ambient noise. :)

It's funny how thier quality scale apparently stops at 11. I can hear it now:
Why not just make your scale max out at 10?
Ours goes to 11.

:D

You've got an excellent (cool) card there. No need to mess with fan profiles me thinks. :) 72 degrees in OC Mode... You could mess around with it but why bother eh? Looks like you're getting the scores you need. :)
