Time for a new flight stick... X52 Pro or X-55 Rhino???

Postby JohnLuke » Sat Jun 13, 2015 5:55 pm

So.... I want to replace my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro with either a X52 Pro or X-55 Rhino. :D

I've been researching them, and they both seem to be great flight sticks. Tons of buttons, lots of programming options, etc.

I am looking forward to not using the keyboard for much of anything other than typing in the chat window. ;)

If you use, or used to use one of these.... what do you like and what don't you like about it?

Also.... are you using any macros via Saitek's software, or just using the button configurations within e:d? I would think that it may be slick to have a macro to open the chat window and enter the "/r" to respond to the last ship, or open the UI to the modules screen, etc.

TIA for your input! :)

I have an old x52 Pro which I loved The PS28 looking on Amazon they still sell it for $130 vs the more expensive ones with mainly color and led screen glow as the main difference (I turn mine way down so not to have a blinding blue glare). I haven't set mine up for ED yet because I have a tracking issue i'm trying to fix in the joystick, but in all three Joysticks (2 x52's and the X55) people say (in answers area on Amazon) that there is presets for ED and that they only need a little tweaking. SO it really comes down to how much are you willing to spend and how many buttons do you want?

IF you don't have it, I'm looking at this http://www.vmrp.tv/voice-commands-overview--setup.html for setting up voice commands for functions so it negates how many buttons I really need.

Edited Note: yes I have a tracking issue but the joystick is about 10 years old maybe more (got it when they first came out) so it's lasted a good long while and many moves stuck in boxes.

I had a T-Flight HOTAS X that died and I replaced it with an X52 Pro and I am more than pleased.

More buttons than I need, and some I can't use like the rotations. Tracks very well. I took the bumper out of the throttle but kept it in case it has to go back.

Only issue I have had was with a flakey USB extension. Well worth it for me.

I tortured myself over the same question, and ended up going for the X-52 Pro.

At the end of the day, after many reviews & reports, and despite being able to get the Rhino a wee bit cheaper, the decision came down to the fact that the X-52 is just more 'spaceship' whereas the Rhino is unashamedly 'jet plane'.

It's arriving tomorrow :D

I just ordered the X-52 Pro from Amazon. I felt the same way.... the Rhino looks more militant, and the X-52 has all the switches that I'll need. :D

I made this, some time ago. It's a pdf form, so you can type directly in it, then print it.
