Crashing using new R7 260X GFX Card

Hi all,

Since upgrading to an AMD R7 260X I'm getting frequent crash to desktops. As some will know I've dropped out a few times now while in Lugh.

Further research after buying seems to point to this card being somewhat prone to crashing, has anyone solved this with there card?
Since replacing the drivers with ones direct from AMD I'm getting less driver crashes but it's still crashing the game from time to time.

Under powered power supply?
Buggy drivers?
Overheating?

Could be any of those...

Brand new power supply is 750W, so should be ample.
Drivers is where I'm thinking, as said above using direct AMD drivers rather than the supplied Gigabyte ones and is proving to be more stable.
Nothing to suggest overheating but it's hard to check. Moving in and out of elite seems to make the situation worse, so did running it in boarderless rather than full screen.

I recently had a problem crashing to desktop and it was temperature related. I don't know if it was the CPU, GPU, or MB. I had the fans set to run quietly, which may have allowed anything not monitored to heat up and cause problem. Before I noticed that, I bought a new CPU cooler. So that, and settings the fans to performance, has solved my problem. You may want to check your bios and see if you can speed up your fans and see of the problem goes away.

RavenWolf, iirc, recommended Speccy to monitor temps. You can run it in the background and alt-tab out to it.

I think it might be overheating.

Been trying to keep an eye on things, the only option I have changed in this pic the setting the fan to 100% on manual.



And even set to 100% it's not really bringing the temp down... Not sure why, there should be air flow in the case. Might have to open it back up or perhaps a new case is in order??

Pointer would be appreciated!!

Have read elsewhere that underclocking may help.
I think this is a factory overclocked version. I've reduced that by 5% to see how that goes.

You have the graphics card fan set to 100%, but what is the case fan situation? How many? What is their speed? Is there a spot for another?

I had front and back case fans. There was a top removable panel and I added another 140mm fan to help get the heat out. They still run pretty slow and quiet, but will speed up when things heat up.

Case fans,
I've got the standard rear and added one on the side. No space for additional. Couldn't tell you speeds.
The side vent runs down right past the GFX card. CPU has been overlooked from 2.9 to 3.4 for about 2 years with no issues. Temps on that were around the 35deg mark.

About the case fans, if you can feel them blowing strong, or hear them, then they are probably running at full speed. But if they feel like they are not moving much air, or are totally silent, then they maybe slowed down. There is probably a setting in our bios or if you have an app for your motherboard like for your graphics card. Maybe try turning the graphics quality settings down and see if the problem goes away?

If the problem has only shown up since upgrading your card, and nothing else solves the problem, then I'd assume you have a defective card - it's been know to happen. You might have better luck with a replacement.

I'll look at any bios settings as I don't think my fans are running at high speed.

The company that supplied it to me are getting me to test it to try and see where the problem might be.
