Yeah I thought so.
When the results come it may be more interesting for people trying to get surround sound from Elite.

Going to go for the one I got the e-mail reply from. I've got copies of the conversations so if it doesn't work as described I've got back up. Not that I've had problems before returning faulty items but it's best to err on the side of caution with these matters.
It's worth a try on that basis. Probably order it on Saturday, funds allowing, then have to wait for it to arrive. If it does solve the uncompressed 5.1 over HDMI to SPDIF issue then it really just comes down to the sound quality. I will keep you posted anyway
GlobusDiablo wrote:[quote=Funny thing is, digital 5.1 surround sound is easy to achieve in E: D if you use the dedicated terminals on the back of most up to date pc's for a pc speaker setup

Unless I get 2 pairs of PC speakers + sub and mount them next to my existing speakers and then have power cables running down the walls too. That sounds not only ugly but more wires to deal with. I've already got 3 leccy guitars a bass guitar a MIDI keyboard and a MIDI drum kit with a 4 in 4 out usb recording device with the PC as a hub. You can imagine the cable management... This is all in the living room of my small flat so keeping things to a minimum is paramount. The blu ray player takes 2 optical inputs and so far I've used it for TV and the PS3, but now my PC is replacing the console I could plug the PC in SPDIF and be done with it.
If that device works, well we'll have to wait and see, but it sure would be a good thing.

I've done a quick search, but can't find anything. I've got a 7.1 receiver, so 7.1 would be nice. But as far as I can make out, E: D supports 5.1 only, no?

I don't know. You'd think Frontier would have 7.1 and the future Holopolygraphic Laser Cone Sound Stage technologies covered as they have future proofed for up to 16K graphics.

Indeed!
