Re: Head Tracking

Well.... my EdTracker arrived the other day. :D

Got it somewhat configured in the software, using the great description and recommendations that Loriath posted (thanks!).

I set it up in E-D, to what I thought was right, and went for a flight. I was having some trouble with it being too sensitive and just too active.

I kept dialing down the scaling and smoothing to where it seemed reasonable, but I was still on the fence about even keeping it.

I re-read this thread and saw the link that MrGuarnere posted to the YouTube video for in-game configuration.

Ah ha.

That helped things go much better!

I now have a little deadzone dialed in, and raised my scaling and smoothing to get better movement when I want movement. The deadzone setting is helping to minimize the small head movements from translating to the game.

Apparently I move my head a fair amount while playing E-D. Who knew?

Still a work in progress, but I'm liking it so far. 8-)

Head tracking was a game changer for me.....

I originally got it for DCS A10C and I could not believe the difference it made....

Just being able to look around the cockpit and for seeing missile trails.....

I love it.....Lost without it now....

Head tracking is one of those things you didn't know you need until you try one :)
Well.. You do not NEED it.. but after trying it out you won't want to go back to the life without it.
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

I'm having a problem with my control preferances. I prefer to have headlook default to 'off'. I can set it in the control bindings, then it seems to change itself back to a default state of 'on' after a few jumps, or logging out and back in. I've changed the setting several times and hit apply each time, but it won't stick for any length of time.

Any ideas?

My edtracker pro arrived today, I wonder if I should use the direct approach or uguise opentrack for it. I found a guide here to use it with opentrack and complex response curves.

Hi JohnLuke,

Did you ever get this sorted? It could be related to a control bindings problem that I was having and jgm told me how to correct. If you have multile binding files in the folder it confuses ED. Even with different names, ED looks inside the file where it sees an identical reference name. So just keep only one key binding file in the folder and I bet that solves your problem.
It's time to give this another go.

Ugh, first attempts to use it ended up with feelings of nausea. This will take some time to adjust properly. One thing I realize, dead zones do not seem to work for me, that get me nauseated faster. Ugh...

Yup, I pretty much got it sorted out. Thanks for asking, RW. :)

I was getting so frustrated between the bindings issue and trying to get used to EDTracker (at the same time that Horizons launched as well), that I stopped using the tracker all together. I moved several old bindings files out of the folder, and that seems to have resolved the bindings resetting issue.

One of my frustrations with EDTracker is that it's hard for me to find a happy medium between deadzones and getting enough action for screen movement when I want it. It also all seems very jumpy to me when I am looking off to the sides or above the ship. I may try opentrack this weekend to see if that helps. If not, I may have an EDTracker for sale very soon.

Not pimping it because it is fkin expensive....

But that is where TrackIR comes into it's own.....The software....

The graphs that you can map for head movement control are exceptional....
