Ok, I'll bite. SLI is an outdated technology from when "If one gfx card is good, two must be better, and probably twice as fast".
In reality the usual gain in performance is around 25% (...if any at all. A lot of soft- and hardware does not utilise multiple card setups. Including current VR)
Two "mediocre"cards and the technology to run them are no match for a single "high end" card. Neither in price or efficiency.
So my two credits are to go for a single 1080 or wait for a ti (or next generation).
But this discussion is religious to some, so others will disagree strongly.
So in the words of the Oracle (The Matrix Revolutions):
