So My ED Tracker Pro arrived today. Little Longer than I thought to get here. Seems Switzerland is not part of the EU (DuH!) so it had to clear customs here. No charges, but it was inspected and opened. Must remember to ship things to my Germany address next time.
First impressions.
The Unit itself:
Smaller than what I thought. 2m cable included is of good quality, braided cover, a little stiff, but that is a good thing.. There is an addendum in the box that states that as of Oct 26th, the unit has a new firmware and is to be mounted Screws Down, unlike what the website says. Nice Casing, but its a simple Black Box. Not like Jonny Ive designed it

Installation.
I had some Velcro, so I used that to mount it to my Headset. I used a Zip tie to make sure the cable stayed in place. The stiffness means that I had to make sure to leave enough slack to ensure the cable when plugged it was not forcing the usb connector, but that was easily done. I temporarily used twist ties to run the USB cable along side my headset cable. I will do something more permanent on the weekend.
I followed the instructions to keep it level and steady, and plugged it in. Of course Windows took a LOT more than 20 seconds to install the device drivers, but it went smoothly. I checked the control panel and it was seeing it as a Gaming device. All good. I had previously downloaded the ED Tracker Pro GUI, but made sure I had the latest. Also downloaded the latest Opentrack (I have it setup i think, but will not be using it till the weekend).
I followed the rest of the setup instructions and got it working the way I wanted, Or thought I wanted (See In Game section below). I did all the calibration settings and ensured it was working as advertised. Set a Hotkey to recenter, and also did a VA command that will press the desired key with the command, or joystick button assignment.
In Game.
Fired up ED and went into my Controller Settings. I disabled the Mouse Headlook and enabled the axis for the Head tracker. When I returned to my ship screen, discovered the Left Right Axis was opposite so I went back in and set Invert Axis to No. It seemed to be working well. I returned to launchpad so I could have something more to look at than walls.
In My settings for the ED Tracker, I had set the Response mode to Linear. I didn't like that, as I had to move my head to much to get the full field of view. I played with the scaling settings, but could not get it the way I wanted it to respond. So I changed the Response mode to exponential. MUCH better. With glasses on, turning my head to much forced me to look outside my glasses, which is like looking through soup.

This was much better. I adjust the scaling from the Default of 16 to 19 and that worked even better. Or so I thought.
I took off and did a round of the station checking things out and looking all over. The immersion that it brings to be able to look around easy is amazing. I had in the past tried FactrackNOIR and had bad results, again because of glasses. This was 500% better. Smooth and fast to respond.
I returned to the station took a mission and headed off. After completing a few missions, I took a break. That's when I realized I was feeling Queasy. As I sat outside on the Balcony I started to wonder if the queasiness I was feeling was due to the Tracker, Lack of Food, possibly coming down with something, or something else. But after a few minutes I was fine. I went back and played for a few more minutes and stepped away, again queasy.
Yep, it was the tracker.
I went back to it and turned down the Response scale so that it was allowing me to move my head a bit more and was a little less jittery. Then I realized that the Smoothness setting was the problem. I thought Higher setting was better, as it took the jitters out. But it also induced Lag. Having remembered that people were saying about the Rift, that the Lag was making them feel sick. So I turned down the Smoothing from Max of 99 to 30 and tried again.
No More Queasiness! Yes!
I need to play with it more, but OMG is it a game changer. Now I know why Kharma was so pissed when his TrackIR was not working. I Love it.
In case others are wondering, my Settings are:
Yaw and Pitch Scaling, both 15.0 and Smoothing 30, Response Mode Exponential.
Will post more later when I have had time to play with it more.
