ED on Windows 10

Postby Loriath » Mon May 18, 2015 4:14 pm

I have the Technical preview setup on my machine (dual boot) so I can test drive it.

Is anyone else running it?

Any issues to be aware of?

Been running the tech preview for about 2 months now. Other than the forced updates that just interrupt everything when the push comes, I haven't had any issues running ED on the preview OS. In that time I also upgraded video card to Nvidia 970 and everything worked fine.

Joystick? Voice Attack? I have just been installing things to get ED running, will install ED later this week and see what happens. I am concerned about the X52Pro software, if I should install it or just let Win10 handle it.

I have the Thrustmater T Flight X HOTAS and that worked just fine, drivers were found and I haven't had any issues with the game or any peripherals (have a gamepad to for other racing games, but no Voice or VR yet). I would have to say that even for a preview, I'm kind of impressed with what I'm seeing so far with Windows 10.

So I've just seen the free upgrade appear on my tool bar, from what I've read it seems ED works fine with Win 10, unless anyone has seen any issues?

However, has anyone tried an X-55 HOTAS with it?

I've had the free upgrade icon appear on one machine, but not any of the others yet - one of which is the E:D machine.

I'm not sure whether to leave it for my main PC. It works well on Win7...
My laptop will go to 10 though.

From my time testing it, I will be going to 10 but with a clean install. I will back everything up that I can't download and install fresh. I have some crap on here that I no longer use, and don't want to carry that over. That and the fact that every time I had issues on any machine at work or home, it's been a machine that did an in place upgrade.

The last build I tried was really good. It had some issues, but a HUGE step above 8/8.1 for a windows 7 user. For the first time in a LONG time I am looking forward to an New OS. Last time was to get rid of Vista, and before that it was XP. Sounds strange but when you look at the timeline, that was quite a while ago. :)

I am a sys admin and have been for about 20 years. I have been in the IT industry since 1987. I hate OS Upgrades. Clean Install to be sure it's not ever going to cause an issue has been my mantra. That and "Friends don't let Friends use Facebook." Oh and "Did you turn it off and on again?"
