Torpedos in Mobius PvE

OK ..... first dumb newbie question :D

As a newbie running missions in my Cobra Mk III to earn a few Credits I've been interdicted a few times and the general advice seems to be to submit and then High Wake it out of there as quickly as possible.

That's what I'm currently doing .... so

A - Is there any benefit in carrying torpedoes.
Not for getting into a prolonged fight, but more to give my (NPC) attacker something to occupy his mind whilst I jump.
As I know torpedoes are slow but if he's running/keeping his distance from that he's not 100% focused on my Cobra.

Who knows ... against an NPC I might even get a lucky kill! Which raises another question ....

B - As I understand it (but could be wrong), torpedoes have a long range and will re-acquire a target if the lock is broken and that's something I might not have control over (especially if I'm jumping), so what happens if there's another Player in the area and it's him/her who gets locked up?

If you do not intend to get into the fight at all, best thing to carry would be Mine Launcher. Drop some before you charge your Low/High Wake and jump.

I honestly don't see why Torpedos even exist in this game, they might wipe out small targets quite well, but against any Medium and beefy NPC, especially ones carrying ton of PD, it will be a complete waste. Penetration is good, but actual damage isn't, ammo is very low and they don't even have any decent engineering options. Seriously, I hope one day Fdev get their heads outta their asses and rebalance most missile weapons at last, most are so-so useless, even for casual PvE...

Torpedoes with reverberating cascade effect will annihilate any shield generator.... if you ever get to hit with them.
They are good if you surprise your opponent at close range, which is not the case when you get interdicted.

Thanks for the replies.

It sounds like it's best to forget about torpedoes and concentrate on running away.

Although just out of curiosity I might give them a quick go in solo play and then sell them off.

Speaking for myself I have always found running away to be an excellent plan :lol:

Like a lot of players, many of my ships have no offensive weapons at all. I simply have a points defence fitted and if I am not fighting the interdiction, you submit and boost towards your destination and engage FSD as soon as you can. Half decent shields fitted nothing is going to harm you at that distance. I am sure your Cobra MkIII is faster than my trading Anaconda which still escapes no problem.

Once you get access to engineering and will be able to G5 your ship, your average multipurpose (preferably medium ship) will be able to murderball anything game can throw at you, in terms of NPC pirates, with ease, and never run away anymore. F.e. my Viper MkIV scout can kill anything but Elite Corvette, Conda or Cutter, but my combat fitted Eagle can wipe the floor with any Elite ship in the game. Problem with small ships is that they are outgunned in comparison to medium or large ships (Vulture as a sole exclusion), that makes them mostly incapable of combat. Engineering helps, but still it's harder to fight than in your average medium or large ship, and your build has to be rather cheesy to do that.

Regarding weapons, many folks are quite unhappy with balance, there are heaps of completely useless guns and overpowered ones. Nothing we can do about it...

Stop running away.

No, this isn't a reminder for you to pick up and reattach your balls (though it wouldn't hurt) but that your combat rank, though you like it or not, is creeping up and up, and the shit your game throws at you is getting increasingly difficult, too.

Learn to turn and shoot. Learn to move in combat. Learn to do it now before shit gets too tricky. And don't feel like a twat when you get shot up and have to rebuy. Learn to die. Learn to shoot.

And, for FUCK'S sake, DON'T do it in a goddamned viper.
