I'm all for the possibility to refuel others, but FWIW the fuel scoops don't weight anything, they have no mass at all. Of course, they still occupy one internal compartment that could be used for something else.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing as I read the latest newsletter. As cool as Limpet based refueling is, you'd never have to worry about such things if you just installed a fuel scoop. It's definitely worth the few credits and internal compartment.

Back in Frontier, fuel came in the form of needing to buy hydrogen fuel in the Stockmarket (now called the Commodities Market). You had to manually go to your cargo window and click the "refuel" button to empty a ton of the stuff into your tanks (unless you had an Auto-Refueller equipped, which used up a ton when your tank was getting low). I got slightly confused when i first logged into ED and saw that the hydrogen fuel in the Stockmarket was nothing to do with the "Refuel" button on the homepage of a space station's interface.
I haven't got a fuel scoop yet because I'm only running simple trading trips between systems close to Sol, but I'm a bit scared of getting burned to death by the big scary suns so I don't want to try it anyway. Can you not refuel from gas giants in ED? I've never seen it mentioned but you could in Frontier (not that I tried it, for the same reasons mentioned above ).

Fuel scooping is a piece of piss compared to the original.....Not really any danger at all......

Only real danger is from interdictions......

It is actually safe and easy, just takes wee bit of trial. Not sure what are specifics for each scoop, but in my Cobra I noticed that if I keep edging the star when I keep going round it so that my scoop input is about 30 my heat goes down slightly. So just keep skimming the star and keep the output in sweetspot and you can refuel without a problem. And you won't toast either.

Best way to do this is to turn your ship so that "top" is towards the star as you can see it above you to make the maneuver easier (not sure who tipped that one, but works like a charm).

Bit of a jump up in refuelling costs from about 35cr in the Adder (I think...can't rememeber already) to over 400 in the Cobra (after flying from one system to the other) but that's less than one ton's worth of profit so I dont really mind it too much.

Quite so, but the rare route suggested here has proven to me to be quite useful in my Cobra, even if not making the full profit possible (no patience or space to gather every bit), but without scooping I would run out of fuel couple jumps short even on economy route. Scooping adds little time to the trip but lets me finish it without extra docking. At this moment for me the few hundred K in cash for one leg is nothing to sneeze at, along with little bonus from cashing in bounties.
