floating without fuel help

I've taken my first mission after training and 20mins of CNC deathmatch (to sort out setting up my controls). I took a mission to pick up some containers and return them to a station but as I seemed to still need some practise on travel I got a message that I didn't have enough fuel for a jump I headed to the nearest station and ran out of fuel on the way.
I really needed to leave for work so I exited and switched off the PC.

While I'm at work does the server represent me floating <1000km from a station till I get back?
How do I get unstuck from this predicament?

WHen you get home go here http://fuelrats.com/ and work with them to get fuel

Thanks for that. I'm in private group play Mobius, do I need to be in open play for their help?

some work in open some in Mobius, in case none of those in Mobius are on you may have to go into open, but the risk is minimal, they usuall have you wing up with those who are enroute to help you and turning your beacon on, they should be the only ones able to find you

Fuel Rats never sleep. There is always someone available to help.

you don't use fuel when you are logged out (mission clocks still run though)
And no your ship is not in the game when logged out.
