I've seen a thread on the official forum where a guy describes how he went from a Cobra to an Asp in a few hours of mining. Thought you guys would be interested, as there are apparently some good tips, there.

I gave mining a good try, and after bounty hunting it's a rather relaxing activity. Not quite as lucrative, though, unless you find a good unexploited system, which I haven't.

Thanks for the links I did wonder just how good the Pristine spots were going to be as I haven't been to one yet. 30% per chunk, basically means you can get a few tonnes in one asteroid!

there is a very good post over on the FD forums about mining, i'll post a link but the meat of it is that you should look for roids listed in the system map as 'metallic' to get the highest credit yields, there are also a range of states that indicate if a location has been mined out or not, the best is 'Pristine reserves'

i think it would be a good idea if we had a forum subsection in the members only section for 49'ers so if we find a good deposit we can share it around the group and keep it from going public.


I'm also in the process of putting together a miners crib sheet with the average galactic prices in order, starting with the most valuable. the rocks you get often contain more than one ore and if you know the selling prices you can better decide what to vent if you don't have room for it in your hoppers.

Just for your information:
Sector Fu-Haiting, one Metallic ring "pristine". There i've found Palladium, Gold and Silver.
Unfortunately the stations in that system are affected by the "No mission on Bullettin Board" bug...

I found a nice planetary ring in Talit (or similar name) that was 'rich metallic'. Not as good as the pristine above but I was getting 40-50% indite and bertrandite per chunk.
