[solved] Disable Caps Lock

Postby uvelius » Thu Jun 25, 2015 8:23 pm

I don't know why Windows is so fond of Caps Lock. I mean, who uses that for it's original purpose anyway? Come on.
Any idea how to reassign the key (so that it can be used in-game for something sensible, but not setting the keyboard to meaningless BIG BIG TYPE)? Best without having to mess up the registry or similar stuff?

Thanks!

A bit of Googling reveals mostly just registry tweaks.

There is a piece of software called sharpkeys https://sharpkeys.codeplex.com that should put an interface on tweaks to the registry.

I have not used this piece of software myself so cannot vouch for it in anyway.
I think it could solve your problem but on the other hand it could your dog :/

Rule 2: No such thing as overkill, as long as there are reloads.

I work a lot with a bloke I used to contract for. He had a business installing solar panels before the bubble burst. Now, he's got me doing IT for his band (royalties, website etc).

Anyway, I can't bear to watch him type, because his method of capitalising (say) a name is to press CapsLock, then the first letter, then CapsLock again, before typing the rest. I don't know why he can't use the shift key for letters, he uses it often enough for the pound and percent signs...

Finally was so annoyed that I looked deeper into a solution.
Which seems to work like a charm is this solution:
http://www.labnol.org/internet/remap-ca ... key/26538/
It is a one-time hack, so no need to let the program eat up power in the background after you're done.

So for all those who want an extra key, grab it!

Without the Caps Lock key, how would anyone be able to shout about the shortcomings of the BGS?

UH! Work in IT and this is something i really don't get, seeing people do it just makes me chuckle. Whatever works for them i suppose but if there's an easier way to do something consider it found, shift key was capitalisation 101. If i'm honest, i barely use the caps key at all and i guess i'm not alone.

Ontopic, thanks, this will free up a key for something useful :D

Don't forget that QWERTY is all down to the old mechanical typewriters with the arms that would foul each other without that layout. the only reason your keyboard has it is because generations of touch typists have got used to it. There are far more efficient layouts (depending on your language) but nobody likes change...

Indeed, just try learning Dvorak ... fingers have a mind of their own ...
