No Captain's Log or EDDiscovery running to give you a log of your travels, which should allow you to follow your trace of breadcrumbs back?

If you left after the 2.1 drop, your game logfiles will contain all the star systems you jumped to, set up an account for yourself on www.edsm.net , get some API keys, install Captain's Log and EDDiscovery, switch eddiscovery to upload and download from EDSM using your API keys, and then let both have a go at your netlogs. CL for yourself (nicer interface), eddiscovery for the community.

EDIT: Fixed the URL of the Elite Dangerous Star Map.

Yes I started after 2.1.

I'll take your advice and install that stuff when I get home. Thank you. :)

On EDD I have entered my API key and my CMDR name. When I then select my name from the drop list and ask it to sync with EDSM, it tells me to enter my CMDR name. Where do I enter it? If it's from the drop down list why does it keep telling me to enter my CMDR name when I have already selected it from the drop down list?

Also, I can see no option to show my jump history: it only seems to show my history since EDD/CL was installed, so I am guessing that the jump history in EDH is not recorded anywhere. I have added the verbose logging="1" line in the AP.CONFIG XML file.

Guess I am just going to use trial and error in EDH to find my way out of this predicament I'm in.

Adding verbose logging should not be required anymore with 2.1 because the ED client now comes with an appconfiglocal.xml file that has this setting. And on my system, EDDiscovery happily parsed all existing log files when I installed it, which took quite some time. I do remember that setting my name was somewhat counter-intuitive, but as I am currently about 20 km from my ED rig, I cannot give you any more detailed advice.

Captain's Log has an option to rebuild its database by parsing all netlogs it can find, this is hidden on the configuration screen.

I just self-destructed.

I am absolutely convinced that I was, through perhaps a glitch, allowed to jump to a part of the galaxy that I was not supposed to be able to reach. I ended up just be able to jump between up to one dozen systems. Other than that all I could do was dart about between them. There was absolutely no way out.

Yes, it cost me 1.5 million krona in insurance rebuy and, no doubt, a few million in exploration data. But I just got sick and tired of my predicament. I'm going to start again but I am going to skirt around that wretched Aucock's Pocket, if that is what it is called.

A word of advice for explorers: look at the galaxy map and zoom right out. See the spiral arm where SOL is? Note the large gap between that spiral arm and the next as you head toward Sag A. You may end up getting well and truly stuck there.

If you are determined to get to Sag A* you might want to think about reconfiguring you ship somewhat to increase it's jump range, when I went to Sag A* I went through gap with no problems, but I had 34ly jump range.

What's the best way to reconfigure? My current jump range is 27LY.

D rated is always the lightest (keep with an A rated FSD obviously), you don't really need weapons outside of the bubble and just use the smallest shield you can fit.

Not so fast there Captain "Safe with no weapons"....

MB has said again and again since Horizons has dropped that explorers are not safe with no defensive abilities when exploring. Its only a matter of when, not if, there is something out there.

Go unarmed and you risk the dangers that await.

The Truth IS out there.....
