Any combat commanders recommend a good resource?

As for ships, i would say Vulture if you look for pure efficiency: Good kill rate, shields and everything, plus low rebuy cost if you screw up.
But if you fight for fun, than you might consider a totally different choice. Like an Imperial Eagle, even a specialised Python (with missile racks for show) or similar.

I'm getting some combat practice in with my 'conda and was having fun at a Haz Res before realizing the biggest hazard was the fact it was in the shadow of the planet and I couldn't see the asteroids..... Not a lot of shadow at a Nav point.
