A bit miffed...

Postby Brixmis » Mon Oct 13, 2014 10:30 am

I'm well on my way to affording my Cobra and I keep getting missions in the 10 to 15k area.

On one such mission, from Bradfield orbital to Ranganjan (spelling?) I do the FSD and when I get there, for some reason, I'm overheating. Guess I was too close to the star.

So, I wait for things to cool down, then lock on Rangywotsit and engage FSD - but it insists I have to use the escape route, rather than simply jump to Rangywotsit (why?!).

But when I get out of the escape jump, guess what? I'm overheating again - at around 232° - and my ship then disintegrates. Thanks a bunch! :x

What really pisses me off, is that I have no control over where I end up when I come out of a jump - so putting me too close to a heat source twice in a row is simply nasty!

Bang, and my ship and expensive cargo are gone. Thanks a bunch! - I reckon FD are actually a bunch of sadists!

As soon as the hyperspace countdown starts, I set my throttle to zero so I'm not belting straight at the star on the other end. Do you do this?

Major pisser though, mate. :-(

I had the same problem in this system.

I presumed it was as it was a binary system, and you get dumped in between LHS 6039 A & B ... the white dwarf star appears to be far away due to its size, so it looks like you have loads of room, but you dont . So you get toasted from both sides.
On a positive note ... at least your tan is nice and even ! :D

Ive not got a heat sink launcher attached , but ... now this may be pure coincidence ... Ive found that whilst in SC, if you do the " Help, ... Im on fire roll " ... wiggle waggle around a bit ... it seems to drop the heat quite well.

Cheers !!

Ooh, I'll bear that in mind! :)

I was just looking at a heat sink t'other day and wondering. Oh well - onwards and outwards!

Cmdr Neillm, I generally tend to reduce the throttle as soon as I start coming out of hyperspace. I instantly turn away from the star (as we probably all do).

I couldn't see the star in this case, as Cmdr Nemetos says, so I just left everything alone to cool, but despite it starting to cool down, it was still too much.

At least I got my stuff back for less than 5k - but I had two missions going at once, worth about 25k together.

Tuffski shitski, as the Russians would probably say :D Thanks for the sympathy, though ;)

i dont se the point of dropping us out at the sun in any case .. lets se where is the most dagerus spot in a system we can aim for ... hmmm

As soon as I exit hyperspace, I cut throttle to 50% and flip away from the star until it is directly behind me on the directional compass. This allows me to put distance between the star and myself as I toggle over to the navigation menu and select my next destination. This helps to cool down the ship while I'm selecting, gives the FSD time to come back online, and gives me maneuvering room should the destination turn out to be on the other side of the star that I'm next to. If I'm making multiple hyper jumps, then I wait until my temperature drops down below 60% before engaging drives again.

How are you doing those temperatures, guys? I never had any problem with it and never bought/used heatsink. And I am still flying on max. speeds when possible all the time.
My usual procedure is: leaving the station - four pips to engines - setting max. speed - hitting boost once or twice (to leave mass lock area) - hyperspace jump - after jump: turning the ship slightly off the star (just little bit outside the yellow circle) and starting to look where to fly next. It's fast, it's safe and I never reached 100 with temperature or crashed the star. :)

I think it depends on the ship and the configuration. Remember I had the problem with the Lakon Type 9 during multiple jumps. Didn't pay attention and disintegrated after the third jump.

Ah, that makes sense. I am testing just the low cost ships till my favorite Cobra and do not want to grind credits for the more expensive ones, as there are some wipes incoming still.
