Part of the problem is that the AI is spawned based on your combat rank - which in turn is dictated by how many ships you've destroyed since you bought the game, not how good you are. Someone who has been playing for a couple of years (but isn't particularly good) might get hit by the same level of NPC as someone who is a newer player but quite prolific. They will each be getting a different experience from this interaction (one positive, one negative) despite the AI being the same.

I've been out exploring since 2.1 so I've not been impacted by the NPC AI issues. On the way back with lots of data now so the 'crappin-myself' factor is starting to rise. In the past I would have headed into Azrael to hand in the data but now it will be the first place I find with a large landing pad!

If you have absolutely no cargo on board, are clean, and do not have a bounty somewhere else, you will be completely safe to come back in. I have been telling the rest of the A-Team that I have yet to be interdicted with Nothing in my hold.

I only have a jump range of 17 (meaning 14-15 ly jumps) but I don't mind light escort duties

Also when you do get near the bubble I would find a station to immediately repair, refit.
Get strong shields, power plant, engines and distributor.
Then add mine launchers, chaff and point defence.

Thanks guys. I really shouldn't be worrying too much. I'm in a 'conda with shields and full array of weaponry. I have point defence but should certainly get some chaff. Never tried mines, so worth a go.

It's likely going to be a few more days until I'm back in inhabited space, I might make the run to prove I can live in a 'Dangerous' universe
