Request for Solo Traders in Open

Postby Falcon_D » Mon May 23, 2016 1:52 pm

Hello,

Recently I've been visiting the main forums (yes I know I shouldn't but I like to check in with the Rifters and check on beta news), and noticed quite a few recent threads by a well known Open group pleading, cajoling, incentivising, solo Traders to come to Open.
My question to them was that is Open dying that they had to come out with all this to get people to play in Open.

Me. I don't believe Open is dead or anywhere close to it. With groups like the AA, Diamond Frogs, the Russian group whose name I keep forgetting, also the German group. Open should be alive and kicking. So what is this sudden reaching out to Solo and group Traders. My only conclusion is that Traders in these PvP groups must be too well protected and this pirate groups idea of fun is going after these "soft targets".

Together with this, there has also been a lot of talk about how to "make" people play in Open by making Open the only play mode of choice if a Commander wants to achieve anything. Now this I find utterly ridiculous as why should choosing one play style be rewarded over choosing another. No one put a gun to your head and made you choose your playstyle. No one forced you to pick this game in the first place.

Well just venting. Did it a couple of times on the main forum. But just couldn't be bothered to continue.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

These guys should have never left EVE. But you're right, they want more n00bs to gank. Tough noogies for them.

I've never understood why these dregs who should be perma-banned from the game are constantly coddled by FDev... Please tell me this "plea" of theirs is being ignored except to point out how stupid it is.

in other news: pick pockets are asking people to keep their wallet in their back pocket, car thieves are asking people to leave their keys in the ignition and burglars are requesting that people leave their front door open when they go out for the day.

just one more thing to add to the 'Ain't never gonna happen' list ;)

I don't play in Open mode that much not because it's harder, but simply because I don't want to have to engage in any way, shape, or form with low-life either in a game or in real life. After all it is called Elite: Dangerous. :D

LOL, I just talked myself out of playing in open and I've already started having second (third, fourth, fifth ...) thoughts about it. This is because I've had so many legitimate combat deaths in this beta that I figured getting griefed on rare occasions would be almost nothing by comparison. But I guess I really don't want to play with people that want to ruin my game for their fun.

I keep hearing about some real punishment coming to the game, but it's always later and I bet it isn't really going to keep the griefers away. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
It's time to give this another go.

Don't blame the players entirely. The devs did a frak all horrible job at selling their product. I had no idea for years that the game was even open to private servers, or that you could do ANYTHING besides freakin' combat. Hardcore tradewhores like me would have been an alpha backer otherwise. Frontier dropped the ball majorly.. Saying something like "Play your way" or some such or even pushing more than the freakin' combat would have sold more copies.. If I hadn't heard of ElitePVE, I'd likely have never bought the game to start with.

When my brother 1st pointed out this game to me during Kickstarter, I took one look at it and went "pff... Another EVE, PvP game", then went back waiting for SC to finish. It was after the game was launched and I read up on Elite again, after getting bored with SC alpha, that I found out about solo mode. That's when I decided to buy the game. First flight as a Pilots Federation commander was in Open. Thought if I was going to get ganked might as well be at the beginning. Nothing happened. Switched to solo for awhile, then went into Open a couple of more times just for a bit. Then someone told me about Mobius.
And because of Mobius, I ended up shelling out more money for a non-sub based game than I ever did before. And didn't regret a single cent.

Now you got a bunch of people wanting their playstyle to be the be all to end all. Or at least that's what they claim (and initially I fell for it) but on closer inspection you get a feeling that something is amiss under all those pretty words.
Then you have another bunch who feel as if their playstyle entitles them to more rewards because they have a "harder life" (seriously WTF?). Which to be honest I realise I don't really give a feck about as long as it does not affect my game play. Reward them with larger payouts, but don't change the cost of equipment or ships, no problem.
But give them more influence on the BGS, problems, as I feel playing the BGS is more a PvE thing. Same goes for PP unless PP has some PvP only type thing (e.g. Capture and hold the flag CZs).

Oh well. Back to looking for Raxxal.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

An Analogy: TL/DR below...

► Show Spoiler

TL/DR: If someone has a bad experience in a place, even after a while of having a great experience, the Bad lingers a lot longer than the good, especially when there are other options.
