Didn't check launcher numbers - but I checked my account and it said horizons was available to download - new launcher installed ? Nothing downloading in the background tho be nice to pre download then unlock on Tuesday

That would be nice for a lot of people sure, but I don't think fd is setup for it.
Maybe pose that as a question/feature request on the main forums?
Would certainly alleviate the download servers from getting bum-rushed and make the process smoother for all concerned.

the problem there is that FD work on it right up to the moment of release, some of the late night downloads we have had on previous builds haven't gone out until late evening.

Yeah you might as well consider a release on the 15th to mean 16th.
The beta didn't release until like half past seven or eight pm.
Might be easier on your life to leave it on the 15th, check for download in the morning before work or something.

Besides, the problem is you have no choice. Once the update is available you to have to do it to be able to play.

True but most bandwidth hungry and large files are graphical, textures and what not and I doubt they are tweaking those for as long as they do.
What ever changes made until launch can be patched in with or before the "unlock" procedure finishes.
Personally I don't mind, I got a 80\80 fiber optic connection, and a 7 gig download takes less than twelve minutes

I am proper excited for this. Horizons Beta is great but I don't feel like it is ED without it affecting the main game (if that makes sense), although it was nice to buy all the ships and see what was what and smash them into planets without caring lol.
