Ship for trading?

Postby Jeffers2112 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 1:07 pm

I'm back from exploring and I want to keep my Asp for possible future trips.
I also have a Vulture kitted out for combat.
I've 72 million in the bank and I want to outfit a trading vessel to complete my fleet.
I've previously owned a T6, which I liked, but I've now got the credits to move up market a bit.
I could just afford a Python, but I wouldn't really be comfortable with how little that would leave me for insurance and cargo.
I could have another T6, fully A specced for a little over 4 million, or I'm fancying I might try a Type-7 (30 million or so fitted out), never flown one of them before.
What do you think of that as a plan?
I could put all my resources into getting a Python by selling the Asp and the Vulture but I have gotten rather attached to them. Me and my Asp have been a long way together (Sag A* & back!) and I have a lot of fun with my Vulture.... so I'd rather keep them and leave getting a Python for later on when I've built up more credits....

I'd go for a Type 7, while you will be limited to trading at starports it can carry over twice the cargo of a Type 6 and will get you into a trade Python that much quicker. It's the route I followed T6 -> T7 -> Python. I would also D rate everything apart from the FSD to get maximum jump range (I think mine was just short of 17LY and cost around 25m)

Yeah, don't rush to the python. I suggest T7, then clipper, then python. My only regret in climbing the ship ladder is skipping the clipper.

Type-7 is a good choice, but if you have the rep keep the Clipper in mind too. The Clipper can hold 230ish tones with better shields, speed, and weapons than the Type-7. If the Clipper is not an option then get a Type-7 and upgrade to a Python when you can. The Python is great for trading because it can still dock on medium landing pads at outposts.

Or you could just use the asp that you have, it can hold slightly more cargo than the t6 has great jump range.
I would probably dump fuel scoop for cargo or at least downgrade it.

As for new dedicated ship, yea t7, that shouldn't cost more than around 25 mil.

As with exploration d rated gear is what you apart from FSD, anything more is rather counter productive.

I have been running a Type 7 for a while now. Good trade ship and with a decent FSD, it has a good jump range fully laden.

I've just bought a Python to add to my fleet, not really tried it out for trading yet, but I think the jump range might let it down compared to the Type 7. I think fully laden it's only going to do about 13ly max on a single jump. This could seriously affect my current 2 jump trade route.

I'll be testing this out tonight :-)

Yup, the python is great and all, but the jump range is about par with the t9, and it seems to me that a lot of times the drop in just a few ly's has drastic effects.
I had a t7 two jump route but when i got a t9 it became a five jump route :S

But the python is the best outpost capable trader bar none, my old fit was 206t i would go hunting in it without reconfiguring, It would fairly easily kill elite anacondas too if the chance came, but that was about 115mil too...

The Python is just good at everything. :D

They're durable and capable and pretty and heavily armed and pretty...

...and did I mention pretty?

...especially the red ones.
