Give Cobra a chance. It's great jack-of-all-trades master-of-none ship. You can trade, you can fight, you can drink in it's cockpit orbiting around Nirvana whole night and when you hear it's engines, every objections against it are going aside. I like the Cobra. ;)

Tip regarding the type 9.
If you are going to make multiple jumps, turn off everything except the frame shift drive and main engine so you can manouver.
Even life support as you have ten minutes of air with it off.

Then while in SC on your way to the station turn everything back on. Your shield will be fully charged so you don't have to worry about that.

SW: Your Dad's pickup truck 8) it will get the job done, and he wont be too mad if you dent it 8) Seriously, a work horse. Can dish out pain in the hands of a good pilot, if you stick to it's strong points. Although with gimbled and turrets, you might want to reconsider engaging any higher tier bandits.

Eagle: Got this after I hit 100k doing deilveries...Amazing ship, handles like a dream, turns on a dime, fast, and the third weapon mount is usefull (had 2 gimbled multi cannons and a cannon on the top mount). The lower 2 wpn slots have limited range of tracking, but as long as you lead your target, you should be fine...This setup has no heat and power issues. Only thing is that it's fragile, 1-2 solid hits from a bandit and your in trouble. Stick to the turning fight and make sure they guy your taking out doesn't have a buddy in a Cobra 8)

Viper: Just got one, feels much heavier then the eagle, obviously less manuvarable, but faster, harder hitting an can take some punishmnet, I managed to boost out of 2 fights and live to fight another day (and pay the bodyshop).
Currently running with 4 lasers, non gimbled. The grouping of the wespons is very tight, I can score hits from klicks away. I'll probably switch 2 mount to cannons later on. (when my wallet is full). BTW if anyone knows where to find higher tier stuff, pls let me know.

Not much into trading or minning, but would like to do some exploring. I'll see how far i can increase the viper's range with all the different modules out there.

I have…seen things you people wouldn't believe…Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those…moments…will be lost in time, like tears…in...rain. Time…to die…

I like how Beta 2 has changed the ship dynamic, the upgrade system is probably my favourite addition and love how it makes me want to spend more time with a ship now and see how much I can improve it rather than use it as a stepping stone towards the next one.

Side Winder: Old reliable just got better, works well as a starting ship and now has a lot more potential for combat or as a long range explorer.

Eagle: First thing when getting an Eagle is to upgrade the powerplant first. Had a bit of a nasty surprise when I had upgraded to 3 weapons and deployed them for the first time and found my life support had shut off. Great range in B2 and can be made even better.

Viper: I love fast ships and was a huge fan of the Viper in B1, so was quite looking forward to get my hands on one in B2. The new version has been toned down considerably. It's still fast and at normal speed is still the fastest I've tried, but the boost speed has dropped from 500 to 380 and is no longer the fastest at full burn. Jump range is just under 6ly and cargo has been reduced to 4T. I'd like some time playing with upgrading this to see how close I can get it to B1 specs, but I'm rubbish at combat and despite upgrading the cargo to 8T I was missing out on some of the more lucrative hauling jobs. With the possibility of a full wipe with B3 decided to move onto the next ship.

Cobra: Personally I love this ship, it will never be as good at one role as a specialised ship however it is highly versatile and can be configured to be a great fighter, trader or explorer or a mix of those. It now seems to have the fastest boost speed of the bat at 400. Spending my time getting the Cobra fitted out to be as fast and longest range as I can get it atm.

Haven't tried the others. Tried the Lakon 6 in B1 and it didn't appeal to me as it was too slow and made some horrible noises at points. Would love to try the Asp when I have enough money and can find one.

So I decided to sell my Viper with all it's upgrades and try some different ships. I ended up getting a T6 because it was basically the only ship I could afford that I hadn't flown yet :P

After quite a bit of adjusting to the beast I actually quite like it. Sure it's slow and a bit ponderous but the handling is actually alright. You are never going to take it into a combat zone unless you are mad but for trading it is very useful. It only has 2 hardpoints so it's never going to be a combat ship and if I was a pirate I would be looking out for this one  50 tonnes of cargo space gives this ship a lot of flexibility and you can pick up some pretty nice missions from the bulletin board.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by this one and although I can't see myself flying it for too long (too much of a boy racer ;) ) it is very capable of raking in a lot of cash in a short time.

I've gone back to the Cobra. I sold it and went for a Viper, for a bit of combat practice, but decided to go back again and give the Cobra another go. I'll get another Viper when we are able to have multiple ships.

I've got better weapons on it now, a better scanner, and improved the cargo capacity to 24t. I'm trying to earn enough to get the more pwerful FSD and, more importantly, the upgraded thrusters, which ain't cheap :)

What I currently like about the Cobra, is that it is much quicker at going around planets or stars to get to starports on the other side.

Used to hate waiting what seemed a lifetime in my Sidey - or having to do multiple jumps to get around an obstacle. In the standard Cobra, it's a breeze.

Now I souped it up a bit more.

Got rid of my extra 4t cargo hold, but exchanged both of my 8t holds for 16t ones. Now I'm up to 40t.

This would have been 44t, but I decided to shell out for another docking computer. Yes, I know - but I missed a 58,000cr reward tonight because I was 30 seconds too late, after having approached the landing pad facing the wrong way, again!

By the way, I don't know how you guys deal with that, but I've got a great way of sorting it, that was so obvious I was kicking myself when I realised. I'll bet you guys do it every time, already!

I'm going to stick a video of the manoeuvre on YT for the sprogs who do what I used to do - sit there for half a minute or so, waiting for the thing to yaw through 180°

I started this evening in my Cobra, with less than 100k and finished with over 300k. Using the multiple mission 'technique' and waiting 5 minutes for the next ones, you can earn a wad of dosh in short order.

Still not got to try out my kill-warrant scanner, though. 8-)

Do you mean doing 180° pitch and then 180° roll to get the right direction? Or there is another trick?
In any case, I am glad that you are enjoying Cobra! :)

That's exactly what I mean.

It's so obvious, I was really kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner (and I'd be 58,000cr better off).

It's one of those "d'oh!" moments :D

Is this the accept a mission and then sell on the black market technique? Have you never gotten a fine for that?
