A commander in a Conflict zone

Postby Mobius » Sun Sep 28, 2014 6:18 pm

im under the impression that it hasnt happened yet, but would you fire on another comander that was flagged RED or would you have a unspoken gentlemens agreement and just not fire on an opposing player. or would you kill another player because he is in a pvp conflict zone

if you had a mission to hunt and kill a player who is carrying a diplomat. would you inform that player that he is being hunted?

im guessing going forward there maybe new areas where pvp is permited because the type of environment they happen to be in, these will need to be highlighted to everyone in the future but the majority of our group need to agree on such rules before we set them as us vs the enviroment.

LOL :D

The way *I* see it, only NPC's are OK to engage. If I want to kill players (or vice-versa), open play is just one click away.

Good question. Personally I would not fire and probably leave the zone, plenty of other things to do. Also would not take a mission to kill a fellow member. If I wanted to do this then I'll go to Open Play as it's not PVE anymore.

I suppose it makes sense.

Although we have a different policy at the moment:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4

"The only instances where PVP is allowed within this group will be within missions offered to you by the game, e.g. Combat arenas or noticeboard missions."

But I'll go with what the group decides.

Mates are mates. ;)

I'll just stick to pve in this group. In conflict zones I think it's a case of 'You didn't see me, roit?'.

Missions I'm unsure about. It seems to break the spirit or does it? I mean missions are game driven so it wouldn't be pvp for the sake of it. If, say, the mission was to get me for being too much of an ero and causing a bit of a to do. I wouldn't mind being chased down. It wouldn't be personal. May the best person win and all that. Probably be good sweaty HOTAS fun too.

The only time I can see me opening fire on another player in aggression would be in defence and that would only happen if the group was infiltrated.

I am afraid it is much more complicated than that.
The problem of going to a conflict zone in open play is not that you are meeting other players on the opposite faction. It is meeting other players on your own faction killing you.

I would very much prefer not going in open play especially for those battle zones, because I see an even bigger attraction for lulz killers there.

At least how I understood, this group was formed to prevent arbitrary and unconsensual PvP (grief and lulz killing).
So fighting in battle zones would not violate the general setting of the group, as going to battle zones is very much consenting to fighting the ships on the other team. If we would put in place the rule that you don't fight certain enemies (Players) in battles,we twist the setting of he game and take away from it. Just imagine your NPC Wingman seeing this bad guy (Player) shooting down your squadron. And you refuse to help him because you happen to be in some special club with that pilot?
Like I said before we would also take from ourselves the ability to go to the battle zones freely being sure not having any teamkillers there but still truly be on opposite factions. The alternative to that would be yet another private group, which would split us up again, and probably most of us end up being alone always if we chose to take up arms in faction wars.

Edit: I also believe that what I describe (rare PvP, only in speciela situations like battles, or missions) is what David Braben discribed as his vision for the game from the beginning and comes closest to it.

Having said that, we can always arange for event over this forum, for example just post where you are, which faction you are on, when you would like to play and asking politely others to join you, and not the other faction.

Also I think this thread belongs in general, and not in Announcements ;)
