If you've got your Vulture well kitted you are fairly safe in many cases, but from experience of using a Vulture in RES...
Watch out for asteroids when boosting, it's always worth hitting a RES that's in sunlight so you can see what you are doing (the lights on the Vulture do not illuminate anything until you are right on top of it)
If you go after something big like an Anaconda, keep an eye on it's wing's status, whilst the Vulture can happily take these down, it can go horribly wrong very quickly when their buddies in Cobras join in
Watch your fire, the Vulture has big guns so there is no allowance if you hit a Security Viper, and given that there are usually a lot around, hit the wrong target and your radar will light up with hostiles
Watch what the security are doing, they seem to rush towards 'Wanted' ships, especially the big ones, so if you see them all heading in one direction it's worth going and checking it out
Keep an eye out for laser fire, you'll see this even if there is nothing on your radar, always a good sign that there are Wanted ships in that direction, but you often need to be fast to get there in time
Above all have fun and fly safe
Wow! Thanks for all the great tips.
I jumped the gun a little today and went into a Low Intensity CZ. Cost me more than I wanted as I checked the factions, and stupidly chose the wrong one. Hurt my rep, but I went back and got myself allied again.
Still need to find a RES area near my Home System of Cemiess.
