Actually, I meant (and want to have) exactly those 4-5 LY jump distance in total. The idea is to travel outwards in those really small jumps, and if you get bored or SHTF, you switch back to fast routing and can be back quickly. Especially if you use something like Captain's Log and update it with the star data on the outbound leg
