At least your reason wasn't pure stupidity, I popped into a Nav Beacon to shoot a few things to break up the monotony of trading, forgot I was full of cargo, tabbed out to read the forum when there was nothing to shoot, tabbed back in to find 25% of my hull gone and 3 ships attacking me , fortunately as nothing can mass lock the Cutter I just jumped out.

Doing ground assault missions in HIP 10716. First i was doing them in my Anaconda, but then i bought Imperial Courier just for laughs. It's actually pretty fun ship to fly.

I just decided to buy Clipper when i get Baron rank, i loved Imperial ships in Elite-Frontier. My favorite was Imperial Courier, but it seems in ED Clipper is closer to that than Courier.

So..... I was looking for something to do this morning, and thought..... 'hey why not do some Cubeo ground assault runs?' I've only done a few of them in the past, and they're fun (IMO).

Refitted the BB runner Asp real quick, and headed over there. Loaded up on BB missions VERY fast. I didn't pay attention what faction they were from, since I was doing it for the fun and the money. I headed out to the victim station, and was a bit concerned because it was VERY dark. Humm... this is going to be a lot tricker than the other few times I've run this scenario.

I get a few defense turrets out of the way, and apparently I got too close too soon and the Goliath started in on me. The point defense wasn't keeping up, and my shields were taking a pounding. I was too close and too low (couldn't see shit), and turned to boost away from the Goliath.

SMACK!

Yup, that was the planet surface, you moron!

Shields gone, hull severely damaged, Goliath still shooting. Crap! Get the ship upright and boost. Defense turrets in this area are still active. DAMN!

Rebuy screen.

Put one in the win column for the station.

The good news was that the Asp rebuy was only around $1.3m. I had completed $5mil worth of missions when I got blown up, so upon respawn I simply hit the BB to get my money back.... and then some.

More good news.... all of those small bothersome bounties on my transaction tab are now cleaned up.

I gathered my thoughts, cycled the BB a few more times, and made the run again. Successfully this time I might add. I will say though... ground assaults are tough in the dark.

My personal favorite that fits those requirements is the Asp Explorer.

This is my current Mission Runner/Trader build. I don't do any hard core exploration, just scanning and occasionally mapping each system I enter when I do my mission runs.

I know it seems like a "jack of all trades" but it gets the job done and I spend about 90% of my in game time in it.

With 3 pips in weapons and 1.5 in systems and engines I do ok against most hostiles. Although lately I am being interdicted by wings of 3+ and that gets a bit out of control. When I did my Federation ascension mission to chief petty officer I was interdicted by a Viper Mk III that turned into a wing of 5! Two Cobras with no cannons, thank God a Viper Mk III and an Eagle. I came out of the with 89% hull and of course module damage.
