Currently doing some extremely lazy exploring between the Lagoon and Omega nebulae.

I can already hear future explorers cursing my name.
It's time to give this another go.

Back to doing errands for the smurf princess. I like it that my PP faction isn't really picking fights with anybody but that may change soon with the tensions between Torval & the blue-haired one. I have no love for the Imperium but any committments I make , I keep. And somewhere in this convoluted mess there will be an opportunity to establish a true Browncoat refuge & faction.

Made my first smuggling run in the Viper4 of all things. Ran full speed to the outpost with highly illicit cargo, requested for docking at 7.4km , turned on silent running & ejected a heat sink, full boost until within 2 km of the destination then turned on the autodock computer. Easy as pie :)

Not stacking shadow delivery missions though, ending up in carbonite (or worse) is not my idea of getting paid for the job.

Depends on the base...The base defences (Goliaths are bitches.....Fecking missiles) .....The base "ownership" in relation to you.....Etc

A defence turret on a mining facility stripped my shields and took my hull to 83% earlier.......

Always wise to scan stuff as well.......Just as you would in space......Just to see if they (Sentrys etc) are wanted or not......

Well, part of my problem was taking in my Python with pulse lasers. They only do middling damage to sentries and turrets, and they keep losing target lock. And the Python is a fairly large and relatively slow-moving target.

I decided to take the advice I'd seen in some relevant youtube videos much more specifically to heart: I bought a Federal Gunship, and loaded it up with 5 missile batteries and two small beam lasers, all dumbfire/fixed.

It made a huge difference, even over putting missiles in my medium hardpoints on the python.

The Federal Gunship is more maneuverable, has more armor, has more hardpoints, and being able to shoot 5 missiles at once (with that splash damage!), as well as having beams for taking down Goliath shields works really, really, well. I'm sure I would be space dust against anything much more than a sidewinder in space combat with this loadout, but this thing makes a very nice ground assault ship! (It makes almost too much sense, as it's a dropship, which one would assume is for taking guns and/or soldiers from a capital ship to a planet....)

I spent a few hours getting my ships into their proper docks and outfitting the Gunship, which required trips to a few different stations, but I still made 4 million bucks and ~20% Empire rank tonight. It won't be nearly as quick as the donation-spam I was still able to use on the Feds, but it seems like a more efficient use of my time than running missions from Fehu or Aditi. The money isn't as good as those trade missions, but it's still decent, and I'm doing this to rank up with the Empire, and get my mittens on a Cutter, precisely because I'll be able to raise cash so much faster than anything else I've done in the game so far. (And I'm not even complaining too much about my income.) So I can worry about the money later (If I sold my Anaconda, I'd have enough money for a trade Cutter right now.)

Now if I can just figure out how to get the data scanner to work for missions so I don't have to leave those on the table...

One tip about using the docking computer on smuggling runs... I find it's better to get your ship through the mail slot at high speed, and THEN throttle down for auto-dock, once you are un-scannable. While I can dock my Anaconda just fine without it, I still like auto dock where I have the internal space (such as on my Python) because I'm lazy.

However, sometimes the docking computer takes the most efficient path from many km away from the station to the pad, at high speed. Other times, it will loiter for no discernible reason right in front of the mail slot--as a prime target for scanning. So I'd advise not relying on it to get you through the mail slot. Save it for after.

With enough practice (and a few runs getting tangled in the cage...) blasting through the mail slot with 4 pips to engines and full throttle is very doable. I've even done it in the Anaconda once or twice.

Trade! Trade! Trade! Trade!

They really do. Though, I have really good planetary fun with my Corvette, so maybe you are running a different setup? The Corvette makes turns on planet like a boss. I was strafing around a base with ease, all the while making pew-pewing sounds, since I wasn't really keen on making the Ganymede base agro.

Hmm, what to do. I need another 154,257,518cr to buy the rest of the ships I want. I think I might say blergh-it, and start doing some long range deliveries of meta-alloys to the Maia system. 468LY isn't that bad. Did that to Fehu many times.

Or I might dis-assemble my HOTAS setup, and plugin my G25 and play some ETS2 with head tracking..

One of those two.

Very good point , I'll modify my smuggling technique so as to use the autodock at the last few moments. Thanks :)

(this might be more general rant than specifically at anyone)
Why?
What is it having elite will let you do that you can't do now ?
Outside of founders access those and few big missions, with larger rewards what is it ?
After almost making elite in trading you should be close to a billion at least in assets, you can afford any ship in game, I'm there myself, I don't need to make money anymore.

shinrarta has few nice things, every ship in game, and 10% bonus.
Well after power play we have a permanent 15% bonus that anyone can use. and with tools like EDDB.IO you will find anything easily.

Meh, I'm probably a bit grouchy since I'm 14k from sag a* and I havent seen anything new since the lagoon, it's just all the same, even the nebula's look like copy pastes at this point.
And yet again going exploring has only really had one major effect.
I stop playing, cause it's not fun.

Contemplating just self destructing to get back already.
