Cheers Avi. I thought both were very informative, and getting the fundamentals across. It is not a very accessible game. Endure and you shall be rewarded. :)

Yeah I'm not surprised people swamp the official forum with 'how do I?' style posts. It's wrong in my view to shoot the posters down with replies like 'here we go again' and 'please read the forums before re starting a thread' etc etc. There are 100's of pages to plough through and a new player just wants to start the game and get on with it. There are also people saying that players just want it all on a plate. Most people take instruction before they take a car on the road (I know, analogy with real life situation).

Some here on this forum started at Alpha. I paid into Premium Beta and played the practice tutorials until it was my turn/privilege to play online. Before that I watched youtube videos. I had time to learn a lot (not all by far) of the mechanics and settings as and when FD added things before the official release. So for those of us who were testers, we started in the shallow end and doggy paddled our way out. OK I accept there must have been seasoned gamers who may have dived straight in, but we had a gradual education. New players have got it all in one go with little no documentation apart from youtube or the official forum.

I tried the tutorials and imagined I was totally new to the game. I understand the frustration this could bring to a new player. It didn't explain enough. The control settings panel is intimidating without a video explanation to say the least.

I sympathise with new players.

Cheers Commander, I'll keep that in mind. :)

Initial review from me, flying around in my Sidey. Holy crap it's ruthless. I know what I'm getting in to, and I find that getting to know my way around the Elite universe is extremely daunting. Configuring the 360 pad to anything useful is a fist clenchingly aggraviting experience in itself.
So I agree with the reviews in general, that the game has enormous potential, but the learning curve is straight up the mountain, and not much help on the way. And the game still need fleshing out.

But I'm in awe, as I was with the previous titles. I really hope it isn't too inaccessible for newcomers. Sales will depend on it...

Fly safe Commanders. :)

Another good review:

The undercooked multi-player aspects will be sorted soon hopefully...
