I suspect it wasn't a USS (unidentified signal source) but a SSS (strong signal source).

remember that Weak Signal Sources now also contain ships very frequently - a typical scenario is a single Sidewinder, who has 2 friends in Vipers that drop in once the Sidewinder is dead. a couple of those, and there's your 6 pirates accounted for

i realise it isn't as challenging as a SSS, but for me anyway when i'm doing pirate-kill missions i just want to meet the numbers and satisfy the mission requirement as quick as possible. there's plenty of challenge on tap at conflict zones

Now, this has to be the game's way of replying to my nagging about bad spawns the other day... but when i dropped into that USS I immediately froze. There was 3 Anacondas and 2 Pythons EACH with 2 Vultures in their wing.

I've never pressed the FSD charge button faster in my life

Oh... did i mention all of them were deadly/elite?

I got pulled out of cruise by a deadly conda last night, hauling 208 t of imperial slaves as well,
Donna showed me what kind of lady she was and just before I lost my last shield ring he went poof :D

I'm starting to feel as if FD has a few buttons somewhere, one marked "Fuck them all", and another marked "Bore them to death".

That was my first thought as well, but this game is doing some weird shit, honestly I think the servers are alternating between maryjane and meth at this point..

Yes that would be SSS, these are designed for wings, going into one alone and trying to take them on is suicide.

Apart from the usual collection of wanted/system authority ships your find there are a few common USS scenarios we have found that are good for completing pirate missions:

1. Lone sidewinder which attacks you almost instantly, kill this and 2 vipers or 2 vipers and an Eagle will appear (does not work if wingman is still present when sidewinder dies) can be a tough fight even in Vulture when they are deadly ranked and you are alone.

2. Military T9 escorted by Anacondas, wait around a bit and a wanted Vulture with a collection of sideys and eagles will appear.

3. Wanted Anaconda with 2/3 system authority Anacondas.

4. T9 being attacked my a wing of Sideys, at some point a clean Fer de lance and escort will arrive to defend the T9 and the remaining sideys will start to run.

The easiest way to complete a pirate mission is to drop into a RES, if the the system has one.

Didn't realise res sites had these in. Do they show up as mission targets or do you just need to get lucky?

Every wanted ship in a RES will show as a mission target or if you are being evil and killing civilian ships the clean ships will show as mission targets.
