Got both Asp and Assault Ship now. Technically if I sold both I could have a very basic Python. Not too sure if that's wise though.

I think that mostly just depends on how you fly.

The Python is, in my very biased estimation, the best ship in the game. But! It just depends on what you like to do.

Well, my ultimate goal was to have a Python. So I got me the Python, but I will be buying an Asp (again) as a second ship.

I’ve got a Python for some time, but I wasn’t impressed by its maneuverability in combat. The Vulture spoiled me, I’m afraid.

IMO, it’s one of the best looking ships, tho.

Have flown the Sidey, Adder, Asp, Cobra, Courier, Vulture, Eagle (once and only once) and Python. I sold all the others to get my Python and have never regretted it. Recently docked my Python which I had been flying for over a month and decided to go smuggling in a Cobra. But I really missed flying my Python, so docked my Cobra yesterday and went back to flying Lady Jayne.

As you can see, I'm very biased towards the Python.

Another Python fan here,
I also have a DBE, an Imperial Courier, FDL and Anaconda. Of late I have been using the FDL for smuggling/BB missions but last night I picked up a kill pirates mission. Kill 30 Pirates for 1.2 million with a 2 week timer so though I'd give the Python an outing and it was a joy.
The ship is Fully A rated, 2 x C3 gimballed beams, 1 x C3 PA and 2 x C2 gimballed cannons. 1 C5 SCB.
Well the 30 pirates took no more than 2 hrs. I found a High RES and it just kept giving me great targets. Condas, FDL's (highest bounty I have seen on one 325k), clippers and Python's
All in all I made just under 6 million from the kills which for 2 hrs is by far my best pew pew earnings in one session and the Python was definitely the go to ship for this role, no power management required, Very combat capable, I could have stayed there and carried on I only left due to time restraints in RL.
