Am running missions out of Surti in an effort to improve one faction's growth in the system, which is low profit but kind of fun. I hope missions at a future point in time, so 1.3, actually escalate to a point where they give a decent payout.

I'm trying to decide whether I want to trade in my Asp+ Vulture and get a Python, which will cover me for multi-role work into the future. Or if I should keep slogging away in the Asp and Vulture earning cash to buy a Python and add it to my fleet.

I sold my Vulture when I was in the same situation as you. The Python was able to cover both combat (with more firepower) and haul somewhere around 180-200 tons of cargo, while having around 16+ LYs of jump range when I upgraded it later on. I kept my Asp for purposes outside of combat and if I didn't need to haul much cargo.

You'd be most likely get disappointed if you bought it without enough credits though. I tried to bear with the performance it had before I was able to upgrade the modules to a bearable standard. I ended up always quickly losing shields, getting out-turned every now and then by smaller ships, etc. The Vulture's maneuverability spoiled me a lot that I neglected learning when to turn off flight assist at certain situations (most of the time you just really need to distribute more power to your engines if they're agile). Probably just better off to save more cash (maybe around 65-70m?) if you want the Python to easily adjust to your piloting.

When you get used to the Python, you should be able to keep up with Eagles and Vipers, be it in a mixed instance of small and big ships in a RES or just killing AI in a CZ.

Cheers Griff. Yeah - I'm looking at the longhaul cashwise for the Python. Much as I did with the Asp and the Vulture, I always make sure I have excess credits to cover upgrades (and rebuy cost) before I take a new ship out.

I'd like to hold onto my Asp, but I don't see myself going exploring anytime again soon and I'm mostly hauling cargo around in it anyway. If I sell both the vulture and the Asp, that'll generate around 40million right now. I've got 17million credits to hand, so I could afford a Python now, but obviously want to earn a bit more to do the basic upgrades to haul in it with decent thrusters. So around 65million.

I figure in the long term, I'm better off earning more cash now and buying ships back in the future than trying to have a whole load of little ships now that don't quite have the earning power. I say that, but I can still pull in 1-2million credits an hour in the Vulture if I get lucky with my RES spawns.

I am looking at a Python as well, but I need more of a credit cushion. My preferred build is about 79 million and that leaves me too tight on funds to be comfortable. So I will wait for PP to drop, and then grind credits after I see what is what with PP.

Rep grind to Baron and bought myself a shiny new clipper :D

Here's my trick for speedy rep grind:

Only do courier and delivery missions. They are the quickest to do and moves you about so you can do missions with other minor factions. The total number of missions you do for the empire minor factions is the ONLY thing that counts so quick missions is your goal. Find systems with multiple minor factions aligned with your power of choice to get maximum availability of these missions.

I sold my A-rated fully kitted FdL for about a 100M with 40M to spare. I took a 5M sell penalty but I really wanted to try the clipper everyone is gushing over

Getting the clipper to combat rating is expensive. However if your looking to trade (replace your t7) then you'll only need something like 40-50M. T7 to clipper for trading is a wise investment for fun, speed and style!
