I'm trying to decide whether I want to trade in my Asp+ Vulture and get a Python, which will cover me for multi-role work into the future. Or if I should keep slogging away in the Asp and Vulture earning cash to buy a Python and add it to my fleet.
I sold my Vulture when I was in the same situation as you. The Python was able to cover both combat (with more firepower) and haul somewhere around 180-200 tons of cargo, while having around 16+ LYs of jump range when I upgraded it later on. I kept my Asp for purposes outside of combat and if I didn't need to haul much cargo.
You'd be most likely get disappointed if you bought it without enough credits though. I tried to bear with the performance it had before I was able to upgrade the modules to a bearable standard. I ended up always quickly losing shields, getting out-turned every now and then by smaller ships, etc. The Vulture's maneuverability spoiled me a lot that I neglected learning when to turn off flight assist at certain situations (most of the time you just really need to distribute more power to your engines if they're agile). Probably just better off to save more cash (maybe around 65-70m?) if you want the Python to easily adjust to your piloting.
When you get used to the Python, you should be able to keep up with Eagles and Vipers, be it in a mixed instance of small and big ships in a RES or just killing AI in a CZ.
