Watch out for white dwarfs - the only thing that's sent me home without a return ticket, although they're supposed to be more tolerant in the latest release.

If you get the biggest and best fuel scoop you can afford you probably will never need the heat sinks. The higher rated scoops are that much quicker that you spend less time in the corona. The odd mistake will cause damage within tolerable limits and most internal damage can be fixed with the AFM - especially is you carry the right materials to refuel. And you'll be more careful next time.

Kilrathi's list covers it, although the mining laser seems redundant. And always make sure you take a pair of socks. Their jolly conversation will get you through many a dark period of loneliness and despair. Start to worry if they stop speaking to each other.

It is, now that we have Cmdr Chiggy von Rictofen to rescue stranded explorers. ;)

Yeah, that kind of depends on how well you are paying attention.
I'd recommend at least one heat sink launcher, just in case you may need in, and on the off chance that you'll eventually be able to craft ammo for it.

Bon Voyage! ;)
It's time to give this another go.

Done some white dwarf and neutron star exploring after the update that tamed them.
So far no instant kills. Only once jumped into a neutron's jet, but my throttle was at 0%, so it spit me out. Great fun to try and get the FSD boost though.

Advice: Don't be fooled by the size of neutrons, white dwarfs and some red T-Tauri stars. Keep an eye on your sensor. If a star gets red you are too close.

So far I've never paid much attention to the sounds that planet's make. Don't think I've even heard planets make sounds. (When do they make a sound?) I just look at my system map after setting off my Advanced discovery scanner and while Detail scanning the parent star, to check for interesting planets to detail scan.

Have fun, fly safe. o7

Thanks Guys!

Appreciate the advice. I am currently parked on the edge of inhabited space..no inhabited systems to my front (or I cant see any) Not far from the California Nebula, was gonna go there but I think the path is too well traveled for me so I may rethink my route. Got the best scoops I could afford, decent planetary scanner, extra fuel tank (8) two heat sink launchers, kept one 32t cargo bay, Planetary vehicle bay with scarab..good shield generator with seperate booster, upgraded hull....and tonight when I get home from the real world that interrupts my Elite...I shall be stepping off the edge into the great void.

Just to add, I jumped in to a 0 threat signal source last night and was greeted by more destroyed ships than I have ever seen in game so far..the wreckage was everywhere..have no idea what was going on, I jumped out and stationed up for the night, but I may reinvestigate later before I head out. Anyone seen anything like this before? it was a huge graveyard.

Yup, some of the 0 threat signal sources are full of blown up ships, and lots of engineer goodies. :) Pretty spooky looking "kill sight".
