Has anyone come out of frame shift a little too close to a start with your consoles sparking and warnings about heat damage?

Oh yes! When you go exploring, you’d better be prepared to anything. You can exit witchspace and find yourself stuck between a giant star and a neutron star you cannot see. If you didn’t plan what your reaction should be in such a case, and panic, you can lose your ship and all the exploration data you gathered.

All this long range exploration might a be a few ways off, if going out of the bubble you are going to want at least a decent hauler with range and the advanced discovery scanner which alone costs a mil and a half.

As with always in these games it's not the destination, but the journey. [/empty platitude]

Even just wandering around in the Bubble, having an Advanced Scanner has netted me Gas Money at least, and will pay for itself eventually.

And as you say even just moving from place to place in the bubble gets you some extra dosh....

Well I feel silly as I've just seen a you-tube video in which the discovery scanner is used and now I know why other people have been earning more money than me for their maps. Note I haven't actually played in 3 days as I'm in one of those frequent periods where I don't get the chance and this is another reason why the existence of PVE is what tipped my decision to buy the game.
