The last two posts got me thinking: I operate an Asp in multirole and was in a RES doing OK (I thought). Admittedly my shields were not full and my hull was down to 40% or something and I was just thinking of leaving when BLAM. I am mashed out of nowhere - did not see it coming, not sure if I hit an asteroid or was taken out by bigger ship. Anyway, perhaps I am taking on too much with an Asp with no shield cells, chaff etc and I only seem to find RESs that are in the dark and that does not help.

PS, saving up for a vulture to do the RES bit

May be worth reporting to Frontier. Victoria got her Anaconda blown up in a similar way once, apparently because an asteroid spawned into it or something. She reported it and got her money back.

I was in a res the other night....Taking on a wing of 2...One asp and a viper or sthg....

I had full shields and hull.....I'm attacking the Asp for a while and then BANG.....Something hit me....Took out 2 rings.....

I was nowhere near any asteroids.....So I can only think the wingman rammed me....

I checked and he was nowhere to be seen......So I carried on a took out the Asp......

I really wish I had been recording it, because I'm still not sure what hit me.....

How do you earn $4M/hr RES hunting???

Two ingredients - a top spec vulture, and a big chunk of luck at the start.

When I first dropped in I was up against a competent clipper. I knew then the earnings for that session would be good. If your first scan comes from a mostly harmless sidewinder, that's the flavour of things to come, so you may as well jump out and back in and hope for something better.

Watch the police - if they stop circling and dash off in the same direction, there's probably something worth killing over there. Otherwise, fly an elliptical circuit with one of the focal points at the RES marker and the other 15km nearer to the planet. Fly one circuit a little over the rock plane, then duck under the ring and fly the alternate circuit on the other side of the rocks. Rinse and repeat. Keep glancing at your contacts panel for anything bigger than a dropship, but mostly keep looking out of the canopy all around your ship for beams glittering in the distance. Fly with 4 pips to engines and two to systems at all times that you're not actually fighting.

When you think you have a target, get to it ASAP - by the time you arrive you should have at least the red "wanted" label on your target. Move the pips from engines to weapons if you're using lasers, or your own preferred combo if using projectiles. Target the power plant, and do a KWS. Get in behind your target and open up. You'll earn from 50K to 250K per ship if you're in a good session - if you're averaging less than 100K jump out and back in to try and get a better class of opponent.

I take it your T9 didn't have shields.

That's right. I was having energy management problems anyway, but as I was docking easily, and was in an area allied to me, I wasn't too worried. That was my mistake.

I had a similar thing last night. An asteroid seemed to spawn alongside me and suddenly I was grinding along its surface when I'd been well clear of any rocks immediately. I struggled to break free, but I managed it without losing any noticeable shields.

Got jumped by an NPC pirate about 20ls from the station. Throttled back to zero, but crashed out of SC immediately (no submission for some reason). Pirate just opened fire - lost my engines and from that point I was just a passenger as he took me apart.

It happened to me in T-9 (and not just in it) too, I reported it month ago or so as a bug. Meanwhile, I tried to discover when it is happening and it seems that may happen when you submit to interdiction and you are changing direction in the same moment. At least it never happened to me again when I submitted and was flying still straight forward...

I use my Python mostly. The main bit I'm missing is the "big chunk of luck". I recall once I was fed big ships until I had to quit for the night. That hasn't really happened since.

If you don't see big wanted ships in the first five minutes you're there, go back to SC, then reenter the RES. It will reset it (assuming there's no other commander in it). Sometimes it takes a few tries, but eventually you'll get big ships. And once in a while, you'll get an amazing RES that keeps spawning big ships in packs of three or four. These are the real money makers. But they're pretty rare.

Yes, the only times I seem to get a good RES seed are when I have only 30 minutes or less available!
