That said, ladies and gents I present you per edshipyard my ultimate super awesome multi purpose build:

Medium Hardpoints: 1x gimballed beam, 1x gimballed multi cannon

Small hardpoints: 2x mining laser

Utilities: 3x A shield boosters, 1x E KW scanner

Bulkhead: Mirrored composite
Powerplant: 5C
Thrusters: 4D
FSD: 5A
Life support: 4D
Power distributor: 4D
Sensors: 5D
Fuel tank: 5C
Cargo racks: 1x 6E, 1x 5E
Refinery: 3A
Fuel Scoop: 3A
Scanners: 1x advanced, 1x detailed

It all adds up to 217MJ shields, 96 tons cargo, almost 100% power usage (16,94 MW) and a range of 28ly (23 while laden)

I'll have to verify it in-game though and with its class 3 shield it's pve only. I'm thinking with the shield boosters and mirrored composite I'll be fine up to clippers (unwinged).

It will be good to hear how you get on with the 3A shields against pirates. I guess the shield boosters will help a lot.

I'd maybe tempted to include a heat sink launcher for close star encounters.

Yes I would be interested too as many times I have thought I am going to put the A6 Shield generator in rather than a A5. When silly things start shooting at me while I am still trying to KWS them. :o

I have an Asp and a Cobra both set up for doing whatever I feel like at the time (although I have to do a refit if ever I feel like mining), yes they do not do a single job as well as a dedicated ship, but it allows me to wander about doing odd jobs without having to go back to where I left my other ships.

That's what I'm aiming for. It's a shame finding a res while "exploring" or an unexplored earth like when "fighting" etc...

That docking computer!

In other news I'm happy to report it works like planned, it is fun and profitable:

Found a nearby place to trade - picked up a couple of bounties and planet scans on the way to it - noticed a nice res right next to the station and went mining - didn't find anything valuable and decided to join the fight against some clippers and anacondas - run out of pirates, but found a couple of rocks with high silver content.

I will probably rinse and repeat tomorrow and slowly take my talents to Pand and help out the guys over there.

Kharma - I bought one last night and set it up almost exactly like that, with a couple of minor differences.

25ly jump range on mine :) Unfortunately it was very late and I had no chance to play with it. Tonights testing will be fun.

My Asp is pretty much setup that way. Got 2 beams with 4 small bursts, shield boosters, point defense, and when not doing dedicated trade runs I put on the adv discovery and detailed surface in the 2 small slots and do all three at once. My favorite npc interdiction comm line is "Time to die" which is usually followed fairly quickly by the npc going "boom." I even found a few unexplored systems on my last discovery trip and got my name on them. :)

Best part with this setup is that if I start to get tired of doing one thing it is easy to switch to doing something else without having to change ships. While my main goal for now is to get a python, the Asp has made the grinding more fun. Currently I am doing trade runs while trying to see if I can overthrow a crime syndicate. Oh, and I also do war zones and the only time I have ever had to get out quick was when all the greens left for their union break.
