Passenger missions inside the bubble

Postby cyberbofh » Sun Apr 02, 2017 1:00 am

Hi all

Never done any passenger missions, so I guess it's time to try it.
It's like hauling cargo, only differently, right? :)

Any do's and don'ts?

Hauling Economy Class Passengers is sort of like hauling Cargo and usually you can stack to the same location if you have a load of prisoners it will result in an interdiction but that is like anything else, Mixing Data/Cargo/Passengers can cause a few ships to seek you out at the same time. With passengers make sure you are not hauling WANTED criminals unless you are going to smuggle them avoiding scans etc.

Here is a Thread Econmy Class Passengers Missions

Sightseeing works best for me. You have people types "Crims" can get things exciting. Rock side and beacon missions. Watch the trips that have targets many thousands of ly from prime. My best day cash in was 120m

I prefer tourist missions with destinations that are no more than 200-300 ly out, and not more than 3 stops (okay.... 4 stops if it's going to pay REALLY well). Avoid 'criminal mastermind' missions unless you enjoy the excitement of avoiding scans with the risk of getting your ship blown up if you do get scanned.

I generally run celebrity or CEO tourist missions. The CEO's are a bit more forgiving than the Hollywood types. Be sure to read the descriptions of their traits before you accept, so that you know what can cause the mission to fail. Also, I ignore their requests for commodities during the trip. When you get those messages, just close them. DON'T DELETE THEM! Deleting the message will lead to reduced happiness of your passenger.

I typically run 2 missions at a time. Any more than that and I feel like I'm bouncing around the bubble too much. I run the missions in a Conda with G5 engineered FSD. You want to use your highest jump range ship, to increase your efficiency.

Only the Beluga and Orca had carry luxury cabins, but there are plenty of good paying missions that utilize first class or business class cabins.

Tourist missions are also great for seeing new sights! You'll see things that you probably haven't seen before in the game. 8-) I recommend carrying an SRV on board, so that you can check out of some of the surface destinations.... if you're not in a hurry to complete the mission.

JL is right, the medium range tourist missions can pay some serious cash, add to your exploration rank (although the amount is going to be reduced in 2.3), and some of the beacons have interesting lore, or you often end up at things like interesting stars, mountains, and geysers.

The criminal ones aren't too bad, just take a heat sink launcher, the moment you see the "Scan Detected" pop up, just fire of a heat sink and the scan is disrupted.

Yeah I went full out on the passenger missions. They don't affect your naval rank progressions much if at all, but like Xeb and John I made credits hand over fist and closed out both of my last 2 explorer Ranks in barely more than a week. I looked for a Tourism based system after stocking up on one of each class for the available slots on my AspX (don't own either of the whales yet as their jump range can't come close to it's 45+ range) one with a good amount of fed factions (didn't know about the lack of rank progressions at the time) and proceeded to run data for the lot of them until I was allied with 4 or 5 of them (NLTT 21088 - also great for skimmer missions to nearby Neche [Anarchy sys] and the shirt to mid ranged, multi-crew stop sightseeing missions were paying anywhere from 1-12 mil each. This was also however before the last update on which their payouts got nerfed a tad, iirc.

I've been busy improving my local rep in my home system in preparation of all this.

But.. with passenger missions I am a complete newbie, so TY CMDRs for all the feedback and advice! :)

Still need to do a little bit of work on my local rep and then I guess I am ready to go.
I think I'll go for an Anaconda build (should I get an A grade life support? :D )
