Neutron/White Dwarf Avoid for now

Postby Evoflash » Tue Nov 01, 2016 1:28 pm

Hello everyone,

I've just spent five days unable to play due to landing directly in a Neutron flare. Most of you know about these by now, but the long and short is that you land in the flare and immediately the ship is thrown to different trajectory and generally buffeted about. It's very easy to get too close to star and get pulled out of high wake and then that's it. Due to masses of exploration data, I leapt for reset switch and then raised ticket with FD as I had been absolutely unable to do anything about the crash and wanted to see if it was either (a) tough luck, or (b) wrong game mechanic and maybe restore me nearby.

Luckily FD did restore me (and hopefuly my scan data - haven't got home yet to check), and told me:
"Thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry that you've had this issue.

Dropping out of Super Cruise into a Neutron Star Flare is a know bug at the moment that we are working to fix.
So to help you out in this situation I have moved you over to another nearby system.

You should be able to log in fine now and if you have any further issues then please let me know."

Clearly this will be fixed with later patch, but in the meantime I strongly advise you to avoid Neutron Stars and White Dwarves until this is fixed.

Thank you for passing that along, I'm about 4k from Sol and was thinking of diverting to try one out on my journey to Jaques.

I am scanning one neutron stars field (around +50 scanned stars) out of Jacques, without any problems. I have only one rule to jump off to new system with stopped engines. Default key is "x" i think.

Unfortunately, there is a nasty variant of this issue that frequently happens during busy times such as weekends:
- jump to neutron star system
- arrive in the flare with throttle 0
- black screen: "Cannot connect to matchmaking server"

If you log in again, you are in normal space, but still inside the flare. In 99% of the cases, this means a rebuy screen.

Did not happen to me during my half-dozen test jumps near Jaques station, but those were made during off-peak hours. During the peak times, I saw a number of live reports on the various exploration discords. For now, I have simply configured the route plotter to avoid both white dwarf stars and non-sequence stars until there is either a patch with a fix for the issue, or the support response times go down again.

I've done the same thing. I'm over half way to Jaques, really don't want to lose all of my data.

I jumped into my first and only white dwarf system the other day. Everything was fine and I was admiring how cool the new animation looked.
Then I angled noise down about 45 degrees and gave it a little throttle as I always do around white dwarfs because they were dangerous before, but I must've been right on the edge of the well because I was immediately buffeted and started cooking!

Somehow I managed to escape but don't ask me how! Luckily I was only in a Sidey taxi going to pick up a ship (I'm not paying £250k to deliver a ship 80LY away) so it wouldn't have been the end of the world to see the rebuy screen.

Just jumped to one that was marked as an M Class on the Gal map.
Managed not to get sucked in as I flew directly away from it. Then I skirted round it to get to the station and still got buffeted by it nearly 13ls away!
