If you are serious about the journey then a Viper IV is probably not the ship to take, the best you can probably hope for in a Viper IV is about 26.5ly.

Depending on how much money you have a Diamondback Explorer rigged for long range will get you about 36ly for a smidge over 16M (without discounts), if that's too steep you can rig an Imperial Courier for just over 29ly for just under 10M, or a Hauler for 29ly for 5.5M

A ship capable of about 35 ly can do 2000 ly in one hour if you really really want to. That means no scanning, just mind numbing jump scoop jump.

And that's an idealised path. You will most likely have to add a thousand or two ly to this so instead of "only" 630 jumps it's somewhere between that and a thousand.

One way. And that is with a 35 ly base range.

I keep getting distracted by the actual game to do that mindless scoop and jump stuff. I really did not enjoy doing that. Now, I amble along, scanning a bunch of interesting planets on the way back, like massive water worlds, and hellscapes with rings.

That's the main reason I want to head out there, just to have done it and the scanning on the way back lol. Now that I have a G5 FSD on my exploration 'Conda, going almost 40LY, it is going to seem less daunting.

Thanks for all your replies. I think I want to join the main action and meet people of our Group...but I can do the math, of course...with 22.000 LY away this (I guess) is more intended for the people who have seen aspects of the game already. So I have to decide between a long run and probably much fun in the end, or to stay where I am and play the basic stuff......well...it speaks for ED's freedom to think about such a decision

I jump, Honk the system, quick check for ELW's and WW's whilst refueling and jump. Rinse and repeat. It is boring at times, but it is fun to head out into the void. Usually I am spending time in each system scanning the planets etc, but have a friend waiting on me to arrive at Jaques so its rush hour. 9K ly to go...today sometime (Conda with 51.50ly Jump range)

Would you guys say that JS is intended to be "high-level" gaming content? I mean with a lot of credits you can reach it faster, as you probably can afford ships with a higher jump rate. I have about 1.5 Million Credits...plus my MKIV, that I could sell. I could buy an Explorer and enhance it with some better FSDs...
But even if I can jump 30LY it is going to take me about 850 jumps to get there...

30-34 ly is roughly the cap for a stock AspExplorer.
Only ship higher than that is the Anaconda. The 5A FSD is about 5 million though. Not sure what your funding is like but expect that. You'll also want a higher fuel scoop 5 or 6 so you can progress faster, which can be in the millions. The trip is not for the faint of heart. I don't know what the average Jaques trip is like, but I've been to and from Sagittarius A. Expect it to be time consuming, and, as Turjan properly put it in one of his videos, uneventful. It's been mentioned, I think elsewhere, but if you haven't been out on exploration trips, do a trial run of like 5k lys out. You can get a good bit of exploration data, a nice taste of what to expect, and the requirements for a couple engineers. It's also not too far out so it's easy enough to change your mind.

Heard about a community event for travelling over to JS in mid-August. Maybe I'll join it in Open Play. Or will some other Mobius CMDR participate as well?

I haven't been playing very long -- only have about 10 million net worth. So I just headed over to Azrael when I joined the group a couple of days ago. A long trip in my cobra (at only 15ly/jump) would put all of my progress on hold -- if it could even make it. At this point I'm not yet bored with doing missions and gaining rep/ranks/money so I figured I'd just keep doing what I'm doing till I have enough money to afford a vacation out in the void.

The Jaunt to Jaques convoy 2 leaves on August 15th @ 1900 game time, but it takes place in the private group Kamzel rather than Mobius or Open. Since your account can be a member of several PGs, that is not a problem, just make sure you select Kamzel rather than Mobius when starting the game. Kamzel has basically the same rules as Mobius, so griefing is not an issue. If you want to take part, sign up via the link in the FDev Forum thread, request access to Kamzel, and see you on Orcshit ... ehm ... I mean Ocshooit B1 on the 15th.

I'm probably going to buy a DB: Explorer once I'm done with the Ambika CG. My original plan was to set up as an exploration heavy multi role and head to Jaques. But I'll probably wait till the system has more to offer.
