He talks about getting rear ended on the promise of Off-line and other things, and how it was/is being handled by FD/DB. But he is indeed quite colourful.

Doesn't really bother me. He actually reminded me a bit of Kharma. He doesn't moderate his language much either, but he certainly gets his points across.

Isn't that right Kharma?

He sounds like a choir boy compared to this guy:

Considering the "no refunds if you backed KS or bought the Beta" attitude by Frontier I would consider the opposite. After the negative reply you might have a chance to try and revoke the payment with your credit card company, IF you paid by credit card that is. Then Frontier would need to take legal actions to get the money and I guess a judge will not decide In their favor...
What this "refunding" approach tells about Frontiers attitude towards their customers you can consider for yourself.

I still decided to just look into the preview and risk it, but if you need the money or seriously consider a refund I would advise to make your mind up quickly.

They might not have the funds left to give out refunds to backers and beta customers.
The development sure had cost money and if as many backers/customers asked for a refund as I fear, they just can't give a refund to 'some', either everyone or nobody.

Now if that is the case, let's hope they find enough people to buy an "online only" Elite to pay for running the servers let alone further development.
In the past "online only" was pretty much a deal breaker for a majority of gamers. As the online/collaboration/social part in Elite is currently scarce at best, I'm not sure how many MMOG fans can be attracted to it.

Worst case people denied a refund can open up legal disputes and fight for their money.
If lots of them win, it's another blow to financing the game.

I wonder if it would have been better and cheaper to invest in hiring some additional devs to build a "second" Elite: Dangerous as DB had mentioned...

My feelings exactly. I think FD promised "the old guard" what we wanted to hear to raise initial funding, and then a week before gamma stabbed us in the back and left us for dead.
They must think they're better off without us, and count on the younger "always online oh look new shiny" crowd for their in-game ad financing.

At first glance I thought he was smoking a bong.

Well, I don't know if I qualify as a brown nose or a cock sucker, but IMO that guy is a asshole full of himself and I wouldn't watch any of his other vids if I was paid for it!

And BTW what ship is he sitting in? Is that a T9 or an Asp? And how come he's in that if didn't play in ages and actually installed the game again half an hour before?

I think he could do with reading this

I have mainly been watching this whole debacle from the sideline, apart from a few posts on FD's forum. After lots of thought on the matter I have decided not to request refund for several reasons:
1. I have REALLY looked forward to this game, and I want to play it (even with reduced privacy and longevity).
2. Given the refund procedure, it would result in a legal battle that I simply do not have the strength fight, let alone win.
3. I have invested heavily in my ability to play ED, including both PC upgrades, hotas (X55), furniture, and some other bits - a big portion of which will be pointless otherwise - and all this on a very low income (spent about a years savings..)
4. I have had a very rough summer regarding my personal life, and have been looking forward to ED as a momentary escape from some horrible memories.

so... I concluded that having to deal with online was the lesser of evils, and as I have a 60/60 fibre connection that should at least not be a problem in my end connectionwise.
Chances are I will spend a fair bit of my time in solo mode simply because of my mood, but in my more positive moments, I WILL scoot around among the stars flying the Mobius colors ;)

Fly safe, and shoot straight, Commanders...

David Braben posted the following on the Frontier forum about 20 mins ago.

Hi All,

I want to keep you all updated.

We initially declined some people's request for refund as our records showed they have already played Elite: Dangerous online. After listening to many of the comments I received after my AMA here, we have since re-opened these requests and informed those people that we will be contacting them so that we can fully understand their individual situation before making a more informed decision.

We will be contacting them each in the next few working days.

Thanks,

David
