The Python can be likened to the flint axehead it resembles: sharp, multi-functional and elegant.

The Clipper, on the other hand, is a fast meringue.

I spent a lot of time farming the Rank to eventually get a Clipper, though I previously had a Python. I thought I really wanted one due to: the reasonable price; good looks; speed; boost sound; and the surprisingly good pitch speed. In the end, the Clipper was a huge disappointment for me.

- The hardpoints are just really badly placed.
- The vertical thrusters are the worst thing I've ever seen as the ship just won't budge up or down, very bad for landing on planets.
- While its jump distance isn't too bad, its fuel tank is abysmal.
- All that plus it can't land on outposts?

Well I just couldn't force myself to like it. The only reason I could see that you might like it is due to its speed and manoeuvrability (even though it's only "2", it feels much better) as well as the cargo space. The Python is a better all-round ship, which can also land on outposts, but is very sluggish and significantly more expensive.

I've flown both and believe the Python is the better armed trader (shields, hardpoints/placement, and ability to land on the medium pads). The clipper is fun to fly, though fragile even when A-rated, and looks amazing. But being limited to large pads was simply not good trading for me.

YMMV - but even though the Python is expensive to buy and fully outfit... it's got more options. If you play around on Coriolis for a bit, you should be able to contrast and compare the two in separate browser windows and decide cost/performance/compromise to meet your personal style.
