It's is soooo much more maneuverable than my Python. I am quickly becoming a FDL fan. :)

And while testing it out in a Haz-RES, I finally got this.....

Yes sir.... JL is now DEADLY!!! 8-) :D 8-)

Man... promoted to Tycoon last weekend and Deadly this weekend! Whoot Whoot!!

Hey JL, how do you rate the FDL against the Python for combat? Whilst I like my Python, its cumbersome turning I am not too keen on. But is strong shields and weapons of course make up for all that.

I have thought about getting an FDL before but went to the Python.

I think the FDL with the recent upgrade is much betterin combat than the Python but the jump range is awful so I will get the Corvette for Battle

I have both and use both in combat, for general day to day use the FDL is fine but for heavier combat duties I still prefer the Python. My FDL uses all fixed pulses and it great as there is zero reload cost and with the NPC chaff obsession of late it comes into its own but you do have to be a little picky when taking on wings, especially Conda and Vulture, FAS wings
The Python is just a great all rounder and although as you say it is a fair bit slower on the turn than the FDL, once it is on target it packs a serious punch indeed and definitely goes head to head against the big ships better than the FDL in my experience.

I didnt think the Corvette is much better jump wise Pargyrak ? I had a fair go on one in Beta and the only way to get semi decent jump range was to class D everything then hope that the end system had decent outfitting to spec it back up again.

I'm 2 ranks off the required to buy one at the moment, maybe once I have ranked up i'll give it a go, and I guess there is always the FSB boost option.

One advantage of the new FDL over the old one is how cool it runs, meaning you can fuel scoop quickly now, doesn't fully make up for a decent jump range, but better than it was.

On the Python vs. FDL debate, now I think it truly about taste, previously the Python won hands down, but now you really have a choice, which is great. I'd also through the FAS into the mix as well as another comparable choice.

This is one of the things I think FD do really well, balancing the ships so that there isn't one 'god' ship and there is lots of choice depending on your chosen play style and taste.

I love flying the FDL. 8-) It's considerably more maneuverable than the Python. I would put it's agility on par with the FAS.

The downside is that it doesn't pack the punch of a Python and long distance travel is a bitch. (Think Vulture)

BTW, the shields on the FDL are not bad at all, once you move your shield generator to the '5' slot. I have 680mj. Here's my current FDL setup if you want to take a peek. BTW, the shields on my FDL are larger than the shields on the Python.

More fun to fly in combat than a Python. Takes a bit longer to complete kills. Travel is rough. But... my FDL cost $83m and I'm comparing it to my $246m Python. It's a great performer for the money!

If you're in a Python and think it turns too slow, then I'd bet you have upgraded armor. Go back to light weight alloy and she'll handle much faster. And the Python's 3 large hard points outclass the FDL's 4 medium if you want to inflict the most damage in the shortest time. Imho.
It's time to give this another go.

Actually I am using the lightweight alloy, she is not completely upgraded yet as I poured my money into an Anaconda (trader). But I do have the A rated thrusters. But I am coming from a Clipper which turns like a racecar compared to the Python. I just wanted better shields and weapons to attempt to push my combat rank up a bit. So I wander between trading, combat and knocking around the galaxy looking for other things to do. The Python has not moved far from Azrael so travel is not an issue currently.

I see people recommend the FAS a lot here. But when you compare stats its shields seem very weak, when looking at the numbers. bearing in mind the FDL can now run 6 Shield Boosters and over 100mj of shielding. Of course numbers aren't everything, is it really that good? Don't think I have the rank available being an Imperial pilot and all. FAS' do give me the most problems when I am flying the Python in Res locations, they turn so damn quickly.

That is the good thing about E:D you can try everything and every ship, until you find the one you love. :)
