Well, making the group more public is merely a PR problem, and luckily The Code is helping us out greatly in that regard every time the spout some nonsense or try trolling us.

Nice to know a bit of background :)

I did preorder the beta-less horizons, never liked betas that much. Usually I don't even do pre-orders, but for some reason I did an exception, maybe it was the reduced price + new cobra. Anyway, I know pretty much nothing about the coming things, I know that there will be planetary landings and new ships.. but that's about it. No idea what we will be doing on the surface of the planets.
But.. I don't even care to know, I prefers seeing those new things when they are released, keeps things more interesting on release date. I hope there will be quality of life improvements like map bookmarks and notes.

About the pve only part, I would not resist if a pve only option would come but I'm also ok with the way things are now. Open is a wild west where I do not belong, solo is fine but it can get lonely sometimes, mobius group is great as long as I keep in mind that there might always be one that do not respect the rules.

I've heard the name code mentioned a couple of times now, but don't know what it is. I assume it is a group similar to mobius but pvp only? If that is the case I wonder why not just play in open then if pvp is their thing..
I play on PC, in the Mobius PVE Eurasia group.

They are a group, but they play in open, not a private group. There are many groups that work together in Open and Code is just one of many.

My perspective is that via the mechanism of Private Groups, FD have provided a suitable way for groups of people to play the game how they want to play it, and to police themselves according to their specific group values/rules/desires. I don't think having a top level 'PvE' mode would add an awful lot over that and I want FD to spend resources on the core game, not policing an environment when the community who want and play in it *should* be able to do it themselves. I think a far better use of resources would be to improve private group admin to allow better management by the community, whatever one that is.

I would be extremely reluctant to fly in a PvE environment where player on player fire causes no damage - for me that's a step too far, and removes part of the challenge of co-op wing combat - that of tracking your wing members and not shooting them.

At the end of the day, everyone is free to choose where they spend their money, and if lack of a dedicated PvE mode is a show stopper for some, that's fine. At the same time I can't help but wonder if a 'proper' PvE mode would actually be all that different to Mobius, and if not, why bother?

I wont be buying Horizons until it comes out on Steam. If/when that happens is up to DB, but I think at some point they will do it. Landing on planets is fine, but not getting to do so really wont bother me very much. I suspect it will get old hat really fast, it's not like every planet without an atmosphere will have a station, and I really find the special materials = magical jump range to be a bit odd and out of place.

I agree with this. The private group should be able to manage their little corner without FD's direct help. Although there is a need or better controls for the admin. At the moment only Mobius can deal with admin of the group in Elite (I believe). It should be possible for Mobius to allocate other people to help manage the members etc.

I agree it will eventually come out on Steam, probably when the FD store sales start to tail off, personally however I would never get it through Steam as they take a % of the sales value and I would rather all the money goes to FD.

As for Horizons, driving around on planets is only the headline feature, there will be lots of other stuff in the season e.g. commander creator and multi-crews to name just two.

And on the special materials, this is only the start of crafting, I'll wait until we see the full scope before making judgements.

This totally, even just some basic features would help Mobius immensely, being able to nominate admins (as you say), also being able to search for a commander name.

Again, if you already have ED on steam or have configured your Steam Key from FD, then EVERYTHING YOU BUY EVEN AT THE FD SITE gives steam a 30% cut. They had to do the deal. So don't think that if you bought it on steam and then buy Horizons or a paintjob at the FD store that FD is getting all the money for that. STEAM GETS 30% OF EVERYSALE to an account that has a registered steam key.

This is the reason they were so reluctant to give people steam keys when it was released on steam.
