Spent a while in a Hazardous RES, made 700K pretty quickly, then realized I might be kill-stealing. As soon as I wandered off from the other CMDRs, and solo'd a Gunship, a second Gunship and his Python wingman decided my little Vulture needed to die.
I'm thinking I should have winged up... I've got a pretty good stash of bounty vouchers and sure don't want to leave it floating out here.
Moments later, my shields go down and I hear nasty sounds from the hull as missle lock alerts pop. Time to see how nimble this Vulture really is! Retract hardpoints, route all the pips into shield regen and engines, spot a gap in the asteroid field, and punch the boosters into the densest part of the field. Rocks sail past the canopy, occassionally lit by missle and plasma impacts as I'm weaving at full throttle, hoping to buy enough time for shields to recharge. It's about this time I realize I'd be just as dead plowing into an asteroid than catching a missle in the exhaust port... try not to think about that, just keep weaving!
The boosters recharge and I pull into a climb---dive?--out of the ring at full speed. The Gunship is still in pursuit, but I don't dare check to see how close. Close enough to continue searing my hull with laser fire is too close.
Two more boosts, the mass lock indicator clears, and I punch the frameshift drive. Charging... oh so slowly... and finally the countdown.
Probably could have stayed around, since hull was still at 90%, but I panicked. And it was time to call it a night!
Best scare in quite some time, would nearly die again. 8/10.
